Waking up to a radio station

An alarm has to fire when the app is closed, the screen is off and the phone is face down on a nightstand. That is an operating-system capability, not a web one, which is why this lives in the app and always will.

  1. Choose what plays

Any station, or a specific podcast episode — including the newest episode of a show, resolved on the morning rather than when you set the alarm.

  2. Set it per weekday

Repeat by day, with a volume ramp so the first thing you hear is not the loudest thing you hear.

  3. Trust it

The station is verified the night before and a built-in tone is held in reserve. If the network or the broadcaster fails at seven in the morning, the fallback fires. An alarm that only works when someone else's server is up is not an alarm.
