Trump Fumes as Obama Hits Campaign Trail in Most Expensive Midterms Ever
Raging Moderates will be streaming LIVE all next week! Join us on YouTube and Substack for the latest. With just five days until Election Day, Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov streamed live to break down the most hotly-contested races in the battle for control of Congress — with some new signs that the landscape may be shifting even more in Democrats’ favor. This is also now officially the most expensive midterm election cycle ever, with spending surpassing even past presidential election years. In South Carolina, Republican Darline Graham is in a virtual tie with Democrat Annie Andrews. Will the state elect a democrat to the Senate for the first time this century? In Georgia, Obama once again got under Trump’s skin when campaigning for Sen.Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms. And in Ohio, Vivek Ramaswamy’s attack ad against Democrat Amy Acton backfired in the governor race. Does Acton have a chance, or will Ohio stay red? And in Alaska, polling continues to favor Democratic challenger Mary Peltola. But the Republican governor has ordered an investigation into whether Democrats tried to confuse voters by recruiting a Senate candidate with the same name as incumbent Dan Sullivan. Could this investigation tank Democratic chances? In Michigan, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is leading in the polls, but is facing lingering opposition from within his own party — this time it’s from his former primary challenger Haley Stevens and her fiancé. Scott and Jess discuss whether this is a bad sign for the El-Sayed, or if this is media-driven distraction. They then touch on updates from Israel’s pivotal election, in which no candidate managed to secure a clear victory. But will whoever emerges as Israel’s next prime minister be able to win over the American public? Then, Jay-Z has been announced as next year’s Super Bowl halftime show headliner. Scott and Jessica wonder how this will be received by Republicans — and whether Beyoncé might make a surprise appearance. And, Scott suggests that this news might be a well-timed diversion by the NFL. Finally, Scott and Jessica take questions from viewers, covering topics including Trump ignoring court orders and the potential for a Republican upset. Plus, Scott reflects on losing high school elections. 46:54Trump’s Midterm BLAME GAME Begins — Canada in the Crosshairs
With Election Day less than a week away, Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas talk through the political stakes and the shifting electoral landscape. Trump is hitting the campaign trail in Texas, South Carolina, and Mississippi to shore up vulnerable Republicans in traditionally deep-red territory, as new polling suggests Senate races that the GOP once considered safe may wind up much more competitive. As the administration looks for ways to frame the midterms, questions of political accountability are surfacing at home and abroad. Trump’s ambassador to Canada delivered a warning to Ottawa’s leaders about what might happen if the Republicans lose tight Senate races in Michigan and Minnesota. Aaron and Jessica also talk about the decision by Trump to grant a U.S. visa to recently-defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro — son of the imprisoned former president Jair Bolsonaro — and also talk about the donor network linked to the Bolsonaros that’s also connected to… Vice President JD Vance. Meanwhile, AOC is on the campaign trail in Florida, challenging the GOP’s efforts to brand Democrats as communists while supporting Democratic senate candidate Angie Nixon — whose race in the state is tightening. In Israel, while votes are still being counted, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces an uncertain path to retaining power, as both he and challenger Gadi Eisenkot both sounded triumphant in post-election speeches. The family of Alex Pretti continues to demand answers from federal officials, months after ICE agents shot and killed the 37-year-old ICU nurse on the streets of Minneapolis in January. Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas examine what this all means for the limits of Trump’s influence and the choices facing voters. Plus, they take listener questions about the Alaska senate race… and Halloween costumes. 33:30Obama’s Cheesecake Factory Roast Sends Trump World SPIRALING
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov cover key elections, at home and abroad, in the leadup to the U.S. midterm elections. With Election Day one week away, both parties are bringing out their celebrity firepower. Nicki Minaj is backing Trump and MAGA candidates — and is reportedly being considered for press secretary. Meanwhile, Barack Obama campaigns for Democrats, mocking Trump’s gold-heavy White House renovations. Is the Right feigning outrage over the former president’s “Cheesecake Factory” characterization? Beyond the celebrity cameos, around 30 million Americans have already voted, and Democrats are making up a larger share of early voters in key Senate races. Trump is suing states over election rules, threatening election officials and offering $1 million for tipoffs that lead to voter fraud convictions. Despite these efforts, Kalshi odds show Democrats have a 65% chance to take back the Senate. But with seven toss-ups projected, both parties are relying on voter turnout. Will Democratic efforts be enough to deliver the “blue wave” many have predicted? Looking abroad, Brazilian incumbent leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva clinched a narrow victory over far-right opponent Flávio Bolsonaro. The result put an end to the wave of conservative wins in Latin America since Trump took office in 2025. Could this signal a change in global politics? And in Israel, voters are heading to the polls today in the first election since the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar Party and former IDF chief-of-staff, is running against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Jessica points to the tens of thousands of Israeli expats flying home to vote as a sign the country is ready for a change. Finally, JoAnna Mendoza joins the show to talk about her candidacy in Arizona’s 6th District, where she faces a tight race against incumbent Republican Juan Ciscomani. She discusses major issues facing her district, including high cost-of-living and Medicaid cuts. Will financial strain be enough to sway Latino voters in the state, who helped carry Trump to victory in 2024? 50:32Trump’s MAGA Coalition Is Falling Apart (Live from UVA!)
Live from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, Scott Galloway, Jessica Tarlov, and Larry Sabato break down the final stretch of the midterms. With Election Day just one week away, they discuss the battle for control of Congress, Trump’s impact on Republican candidates, shifting voter attitudes, and what the results could mean for the 2028 presidential race. 44:36These Long Shot Candidates Could Flip Red States
Could Democrats and independents pull off shocking upsets in some of America’s reddest states? Jessica Tarlov and Scott Galloway sit down with three underdog candidates fighting to challenge Republican power ahead of the midterms. Gina Hinojosa, the state representative who’s the Democratic candidate for governor, taking on incumbent Republican Greg Abbott in Texas; Former labor leader, mechanic, and Navy veteran Dan Osborn, who’s running as an independent challenging wealthy scion Pete Ricketts in Nebraska; and independent Brian Bengs in deep-red South Dakota, who’s only polling a few points behind incumbent Republican Sen. Mike Rounds. From affordability and public education to money in politics and Washington’s dysfunction, these candidates are betting that voters are so ready for something different that they’ll agree to trade in their Red Team or Blue Team jerseys — at least this time. Scott and Jess let the candidates break down their paths to victory, speak to the issues that are propelling them to unlikely competition on the ground in their home states, and get into candid discussion about why these once-overlooked races could have major implications for the balance of power in Washington. 56:28Trump Defends Vivek Ramaswamy as Disgusting Ad Sparks GOP Backlash
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov talk through the latest polls, numbers, and close races 12 days before Election Day. Trump’s approval rating has hit a new low — just 36% among likely voters in the latest NYT/Siena poll. And in South Carolina, a new poll has Republican incumbent Darline Graham with only a 3-point lead over Democratic challenger Dr. Annie Andrews — a state that hasn’t elected a Democratic senator since 1998. Trump was on the campaign trail there yesterday. Is this panic — or smart politics? Scott and Jess also dig into the controversy over Republican Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother, and what it means for the Ohio governor’s race. JD Vance also weighed in, saying he is “disgusted” by Republicans who pushed back on the ad. The first Russian diesel tanker under Trump’s deal is said to be leaving for the U.S. on Thursday, after Russia freed a 74-year-old American that had been held imprisoned for four years. And Reuters reports that peace talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. could resume soon. But the Wall Street Journal is now reporting that it was Elon Musk himself who ordered the Starlink slowdown that has significantly hindered Ukraine’s ability to defend itself — despite his earlier public claim that any limits were set by the U.S. military or the president. Wednesday’s Michigan Senate debate between Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers got heated. El-Sayed hammered Rogers over his ties to Trump and the Iran war, while Rogers attempted to smear El-Sayed by alleging he had connections to the Muslim Brotherhood — accusations El-Sayed has repeatedly denied. How will this race turn out? And finally: new polling shows double-digit drops in favorability for “manosphere” figures like Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, and Tucker Carlson among men aged 18 to 30 — the very group who helped deliver to Trump in 2024. Trump, Vance, and the GOP are all now viewed unfavorably by this crucial demographic. What’s behind the shift — and was the manosphere’s influence always overrated? Scott shares some data, and some thoughts. 48:27Trump Envoy Calls Putin a “Humanitarian” as Ukraine Is Left Out To Dry
Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas open with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, who is facing backlash after praising Vladimir Putin during talks in Moscow, even as Russian forces continue to bombard Ukrainian cities and kill civilians. Russia also released a 74-year-old American citizen from a Russian prison after seven years. Is that a sign of good faith or a negotiating chip? Mike Bloomberg is pouring $80 million into the midterms, including at least $50 million for House races, as Democrats look to expand their majority. A new New York Times/Siena poll shows Democrats leading the national House vote by 11 points and leading Republicans on every major issue, including immigration. Republicans still hold a significant fundraising advantage, with the RNC moving more than $50 million to its campaign committees. A Wedgewood poll that helped push Mallory McMorrow out of the Michigan Senate primary has been exposed as fraudulent, after major aggregators had already included it. Is it time to regulate the polling industry? Things have gotten ugly in the Ohio governor’s race. Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is running an ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother. For years, well before she ran for office, Acton has said her mother was part of an unstable home where she experienced homelessness and sexual abuse. Ramaswamy has now admitted the ad came from his campaign. The Columbus Dispatch endorsed Acton as a direct result, and Ramaswamy was heckled at a campaign event last night. Has he gone too far, and is there still a limit to how low races are willing to go? In New Hampshire, former Senator John Sununu is running ads distancing himself from Trump as he tries to win back the seat he lost in 2008. His opponent is Democratic Representative Chris Pappas. Is this a smart strategy for a New Hampshire Republican, and does Sununu’s history of criticizing Trump make it land as genuine? In New York’s 17th Congressional District, Democratic challenger Cait Conley is trying to unseat Republican incumbent Mike Lawler in one of the most competitive House races in the country. Lawler is tying Conley to the Democratic left flank, while Conley makes the case that Lawler is too close to Trump. How does this play out? 33:01Elon Musk Dumps Millions on Republicans as He Tries to Buy the Midterms
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open the final two weeks before Election Day with the latest on some of the midterms’ most closely-watched races. They talk about some of the latest numbers — including the stat that Kalshi gives Democrats a 64% chance of retaking the Senate. Trump was in Kansas last night rallying for Republican incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall, who is facing an unexpectedly close race against Democrat challenger Rev. Adam Hamilton. Kansas hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate in 94 years. How strong is the Democratic momentum — and what does competitive Kansas tell us about the whole map? Violent protests continue to shake France, where a curfew was in effect last night in parts of Paris and other cities. What began as students mobilizing against teacher shortages and run-down classrooms has expanded into a broader movement against the rising cost of living. Around 550,000 people joined protests over the weekend and police arrested approximately 2,400 people. How bad is the situation — and could this kind of unrest spread to other European nations? Elon Musk says he will give a SpaceX share to every American child next year — a giveaway that would be worth approximately $10.7 billion at current share prices. But Musk is also spending heavily on Republicans right now: FEC filings show he gave $158 million last month to the Senate Leadership Fund, which directed that money to a PAC largely dedicated to ads backing Ken Paxton, the Republican running for Senate in Texas. Paxton’s opponent James Talarico is making Musk’s spending a central campaign issue. Is the SpaceX giveaway a genuine gesture — or will this promise be empty, like so many of Musk’s past pledges? And finally: A Democratic candidate for a seat on a local county council in Indiana has gone viral. Jaime West blew up last week, after video spread of her giving a rambling rant during a televised forum. Speaking with Piers Morgan last night, she explained herself — saying she was nervous being in a room full of Republicans… and insisted that, while she might have had a drink or two (or three), she knows what she’s talking about. 43:10Trump Caves to Putin as Democrats Surge Before Midterms
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open the final two weeks before Election Day — with early voting starting today in Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, South Carolina, and Texas. Democrats are up 8 points on the congressional ballot in a new Ipsos poll, Trump’s disapproval rating sits at 66%, and a new Wall Street Journal poll finds Democratic voters aren’t sold on a leftward shift. Kalshi gives Sherrod Brown a 66% chance of winning back his Senate seat in Ohio, and Abdul El-Sayed has got a 68% chance of winning in Michigan. Trump has waived new sanctions and tariffs on Russia required under a law he previously signed — two days before they were set to take effect, claiming he needs to keep Moscow at the negotiating table. Putin has proposed a three-way meeting with Trump and Xi Jinping next month to discuss Ukraine on terms favorable to Moscow. Meanwhile Trump is blaming Ukrainian President Zelenskyy for high diesel prices after Ukraine struck a Russian oil export terminal in St. Petersburg as part of its biggest drone campaign of the year. Jess breaks down whether any of Trump’s justifications hold up — and whether the Ukraine situation is being used to distract from the unresolved Iran conflict. Trump also just endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for re-election. Is there anything surprising about that? Scott and Jess also talk about Vice President JD Vance’s comments about the Iran war during a Michigan town hall, and what this might signal for Republicans trying to manage public sentiment heading into the midterms. Plus, Jess and Scott take listener questions. 56:49Trump’s Putin Deal BACKFIRES as Ukraine Fights Back
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open with a striking headline just 19 days before the midterms: House Republicans are privately bracing for the possibility of losing the chamber. Polls are showing competitive races in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Nevada — in some districts Trump carried by 10 points or more in 2024. Trump is out giving rallies in Texas, Ohio, and Alaska — states Republicans wouldn’t normally have to fight for. Ukraine has defied Trump’s energy ceasefire. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that his military will resume striking Russian oil refineries — a direct rebuke of Trump’s deal with Putin. A Zelenskyy advisor says Elon Musk’s SpaceX recently imposed restrictions on Ukraine’s drone-mounted Starlink terminals, diminishing their air defenses. Musk responded by avoiding accountability — saying that any limits are set by the military or the president. Scott and Jess ask the bigger question: what is the actual plan for Ukraine right now? Kamala Harris is hitting the campaign trail hard, heading to Michigan, Georgia, Nevada, New Hampshire, and more in a rapid-fire midterm push. Those states also happen to be key 2028 battlegrounds. Will she be running for president again in 2028? One Democratic strategist said this week that Kamala “totally blew it” by not going on the campaign trail sooner, and reports say that her husband Doug Emhoff has privately told people he’d prefer she not run. How much of a shadow 2028 race is already underway? Social Security recipients are getting a raise — in 2027, payments will receive their largest cost-of-living boost in four years. Scott and Jessica talk about this in contrast to wage growth and inflation, and brainstorm ways to keep Social Security relevant and funded. Will this have a meaningful impact on the economy and the debt, or is it a routine adjustment? Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung cancer at age 71, following surgery to remove a lesion that the Vatican described as successful. The public disclosure marks a dramatic shift in how the Vatican handles papal health — Scott and Jess weigh in on what that transparency signals, and about the moral clarity and technological vision put forth by the first American pope. 49:43Is Elon Musk Committing War Crimes Against Ukraine?
Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas are back for Raging Perspective with 20 days until the midterms. The September inflation report is out — and it’s bad news. Consumer prices rose 0.6% for the month, the biggest increase in five months, bringing annual inflation to 3.7%. With tariffs and rising AI investment costs also contributing to price pressures, the Fed could be on track for another rate hike in December. Trump was in Alaska last night. Can Republicans spin this?Three debates happened this week — in Maine, Georgia, and Iowa — with Republicans distancing themselves from Trump while going on offense against their Democratic opponents. Aaron and Jess talk through some of the closest races. In Texas, where half a billion dollars has now been spent on the Paxton-Talarico Senate race, the hits keep coming for Ken Paxton. The Wall Street Journal has reported that Paxton celebrated New Year’s Eve 2024 in Dubai with his girlfriend and two Americans who had been indicted on federal healthcare fraud charges and hadn’t returned to the U.S. Is partying with fugitives enough to move Texas voters? Ukraine is facing a dangerous double blow. Russia is intensifying attacks on its energy infrastructure — and simultaneously, Ukrainian forces are losing partial access to Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet network that has become critical to Ukraine’s battlefield communications and drone operations. The disruption comes amid escalating tensions between Trump and Kyiv, raising questions about whether Trump is using Musk’s technology as leverage. Hegseth was also called a war criminal this week. Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as Ambassador to Greece amid allegations, and Katie Zacharia has begun her tenure as White House press secretary. Aaron weighs in on the Guilfoyle allegations and brings up her “burn book.” Plus, questions from the audience. 31:54Trump’s New Press Secretary Flops During First Briefing
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov start with a check in on the election map, just a few weeks out from the midterms. Can Democrats trust the polling leads they currently see in the Senate races in Maine, Michigan, and Texas? Trump is doubling down on his decision to temporarily lift sanctions on Russian diesel, despite pushback from Republicans and European allies. The plan has Russia supplying around 300,000 tons of diesel immediately, with increasingly larger amounts to follow — but the total proposed over six months would cover just about 9 days of U.S. diesel consumption. Is this really about lowering prices — or is something else going on? Ukrainian drone strikes hit multiple data centers belonging to Russian internet giant Yandex, knocking them offline. This led some to suggest Russian social media bot activity had been disrupted — but the traffic that dropped was largely automated search crawlers, not Kremlin-linked disinformation. Troll farms, social media accounts, and paid influencers are still fully operational. Scott and Jess ask: how dangerous is it when misinformation about misinformation makes Americans less prepared to combat foreign interference ahead of an election? New press secretary Katie Zacharia held her first White House press briefing today — and used part of it to break the news that Kimberly Guilfoyle — Don Jr.’s former fiancee and America’s ambassador to Greece — would be resigning amidst a slew of allegations, including that she brought lobbyists to government meetings, and had a political benefactor pay her credit card bill. Trump is now privately having second thoughts about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announced plan to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. Hegseth proposed broadcasting the firing-squad execution publicly as a deterrent, but bipartisan backlash has mounted. Will Trump go through with it? Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has filed paperwork with the FEC to run for re-election in 2028. He is currently 93 years old — which means he would be 97 on election day, and is currently third in line for the presidency. Scott weighs in. 55:30Trump Moves to Fund Putin’s War While Betraying Ukraine (ft. Sarah Longwell)
Jessica Tarlov is joined by The Bulwark’s Sarah Longwell, host of the Focus Group podcast, and NYT bestselling author of How to Eat an Elephant: One Voter at a Time — for a wide-ranging conversation 22 days before the midterms. They open with Ukraine and Russia, where Trump is claiming there is now an “energy ceasefire” — even as senators from both parties call on him to reverse plans to temporarily lift sanctions on Russian diesel. Sarah breaks down the current state of the Ukraine war, whether Trump really thought a Putin energy deal would go over well domestically, and what Trump’s weekend comments that Ukraine needs a new president mean for the relationship with Kyiv and America’s allies. Sarah also talks about how all of this information means an opportunity for Democrats, and whether they can capitalize on it in the midterms. Elon Musk is running a misinformation operation at home. Election officials in Colorado and Washington have warned about misleading texts from Musk’s America PAC asking voters to confirm “ballot requests” they never made. The PAC also runs VoteSafe.org, a registration site that collects and may share users’ personal information. And Musk amplified a false claim — pushed by conservative commentators including Spencer Pratt and GOP strategist Caroline Wren — that Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico had been at an Ohio mental health facility rather than recovering from the flu at home. Both Talarico’s campaign and the facility denied the claim. Federal agents raided the Washington residence of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) Monday as the Trump administration investigates her immigration paperwork — 22 days before the midterms, raising immediate questions about DOJ policy against election-period interference. No findings of wrongdoing have been announced, and Rep. Omar denounced the raid as the “weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.” There is ongoing controversy over whether the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan will be livestreamed — which would make it the first military execution since 1961. Trump has said he hasn’t made a final decision after the Pentagon and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced their intentions, and Vice President Vance is now distancing himself from Hegseth’s position. The White House has a new press secretary: conservative lawyer and commentator Katie Zacharia, who takes over from Karoline Leavitt. The Bulwark reported that Zacharia deleted past social media posts ahead of her appointment, including one that called for the suspension of habeas corpus. Sarah assesses the pick — and the stakes of the press secretary role — as Trump heads into lame duck territory. 58:25Fox News Controls Over Half of Cable News Viewership — Democrats Can't Afford to Ignore That
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open Thursday with the Michigan Senate race, where Republican nominee Mike Rogers has released a new ad declaring that Canada is "not our enemy" and calling for an end to the tariffs — a sharp reversal from his position just weeks ago when he called those same tariffs "necessary." Rogers is now trailing Abdul El-Sayed in a race that could decide overall Senate control. Is this enough to convince Michigan voters — or is the flip too late and too transparent? Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made a trip to San Diego this week to welcome home the USS Abraham Lincoln, working out with Marines in a clip that went viral. The visit comes after Hegseth dismissed reports of food shortages and crew fatigue during the Iran war deployment as "completely misrepresented." Could this election’s October surprise be military action in Iran? Iowa Democratic candidate Rob Sand heads into the final stretch of the governor's race with a double-digit lead: a new poll has him at 55% to Republican Zach Lahn's 43%, with Kalshi giving Sand an 89% chance of winning. The two met in a debate this week and things quickly got heated — with Sand accusing his opponent of not really living in Iowa. Scott and Jess break down how the Sand campaign is running — and what a Democratic flip in Iowa would mean for the national map. Fox News just turned 30 years old — and its ratings dominance has never been stronger, with the network averaging 1.69 million total-day viewers in 2025, compared with 551,000 for MSNOW and 432,000 for CNN. Fox News now captures over 50% of the total cable news audience. Should more Democrats follow Jess's lead and engage with the network? And finally: a wave of movies about tech CEO is hitting theaters: Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning drops Friday — about Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, a Sam Altman biopic starring Andrew Garfield just premiered, Alex Gibney’s Elon Musk documentary premiered at Venice, and A24’s much-anticipated Elizabeth Holmes film called You Can See Everything is on the way. Is Hollywood just out of original ideas — or is the timing of all these releases saying something about where the culture is right now? 46:26Trump’s Teasing a Midterm Surprise Tied to Project 2025 — Here's Why That Should Worry Everyone
Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas are back for Raging Perspective with three weeks until the midterms. Trump is teasing a "midterm surprise" that he says could make history — hinting that OMB Director and Project 2025 architect Russell Vought is behind a major announcement coming in the next few weeks. This comes as 42% of Trump's 2024 Latino voters now say they're disappointed or regret their vote. Aaron breaks down what the surprise might be, voter dynamics heading into the final stretch, and his concerns about the possibilities of AI-generated content impacting the election. France is in its third week of escalating student protests over the state of public schools. Yesterday's demonstrations were among the most violent yet — the Prime Minister has suspended high school classes for the rest of the week, and police have fired tear gas and water cannons at students blockading schools. Any takeaways for American politics? The first of four Maine Senate debates in just ten days took place last night. Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins and Democrat Troy Jackson went head to head on immigration, tariffs, and rising fuel costs. Aaron scores the debate and previews what he thinks might happen in November. Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is now distancing himself from Hasan Piker after campaigning with the controversial streamer throughout the primary — reportedly calling Piker directly and warning that his rhetoric was costing votes, asking him to tone it down. Smart move or too late? New leaked audio from a Ken Paxton fundraiser has the Republican Senate nominee blaming the Iran war and rising gas prices for his campaign's struggles in Texas — telling donors that affordability is "by far our biggest problem" and admitting "I don't make the decisions." Is Paxton already playing the blame game? And finally: Christian YouTuber Gabe Poirot went viral on Fox News for describing his 18 days in heaven during a coma after a 2021 skateboard crash, including his experience meeting Jesus. Aaron and Jess react. Plus, questions from the audience. 30:28The Most UNHINGED Thing Trump Has Said About the Iran War Yet
Get your copy of I Disagree — the new book by Jessica Tarlov! Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open Tuesday with Trump's Nebraska rally — where the president made shocking comments about the Iran war that immediately drew national attention and outrage. Trump also mentioned one of his favorite topics — our own Jessica Tarlov. At the same event, Trump unveiled a new executive order aimed at lowering diesel prices. Will this be enough to sway farmers and other Republicans hit hard by soaring diesel prices — or does it fall short of what the inflation-frustrated base actually needs? Trump's MAGA Inc. Super PAC has now agreed to pay for the repurposed Trump campaign ads that have been airing nationwide, which had been marked as paid for with taxpayer money — more than $10 million worth of ads on cable and network TV since September. Is this a rare admission of defeat, or damage control? The main Democratic Senate Super PAC has been ramping up Epstein-related attack ads, with AdImpact counting 69 Epstein ads this cycle worth more than $36.6 million. New polling shows 44% of voters see Epstein as a serious campaign issue. Scott and Jess debate whether this is a smart closing-month strategy or a risky one for Democrats. The Cornell Seven case is now sparking protests on campus. Thousands of students and faculty rallied at Cornell last night in response to the lawsuit over the school's handling of a 2024 sexual assault allegation. Attendees marched to university president Michael Kotlikoff's office, demanding his resignation and a ban on fraternities. Is this fundamentally a university management issue, a criminal justice issue — or both? And finally: a measles outbreak is spreading across the Northeast. Pennsylvania has surpassed one thousand cases this year, and New York has declared a state of emergency, expanding vaccine access as health officials scramble to contain the spread. How serious is this — and what does it say about the public health infrastructure under RFK? 38:18Republicans Brace for HISTORIC Losses as Trump PANICS and BRIBES Voters
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open the final month before the midterms with the big picture: Kalshi has Democrats at 64% to win majorities in both the House and Senate, and new polling shows Democrats leading gubernatorial races in Republican-held states including Iowa, Ohio, and even Texas. Trump has been out rallying — promising "nearly $100" to 20 million seniors on Medicare, and teasing a "big surprise" in November. Is the momentum firmly behind Democrats — and what exactly is $100 supposed to do for seniors? Scott adds just how bad an idea it is to hand out money that creates more debt for the country and the next generation of Americans. The Iran war just reached British soil. The U.S. has abruptly pulled all B-1 bombers from a UK air base after commanders received urgent intelligence about an Iran-backed plot against the facility. British police had already arrested five men in vans near the base — later released on bail but still under investigation — and a dual British-Iranian national was separately arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. How serious are these threats — and does this change the calculus of the Iran conflict? On Friday, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Sen. Jeff Merkley introduced the Ban Flock Act — a bill that would bar federal agencies from using automated license plate readers and cut off federal grant funding to state and local governments with contracts for the technology. The same night, Sanders and AOC made a surprise appearance to introduce rock band The Strokes before about 40,000 fans in Queens. Are Bernie and AOC giving the people what they want — and will Bernie continue to be a major presence heading into 2028? A new Supreme Court term begins today, with major cases on the docket including proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration, and the Trump administration's policy of detaining noncitizens without bond hearings. Justice Alito says he considered retiring this year but will revisit the decision in 2027. What does this mean for Republicans hoping to replace him with another conservative — and what happens if Democrats take back the Senate before he makes his exit? And finally: a mysterious illness at a Russian laboratory that studies some of the world's deadliest pathogens has sparked a health scare. A 28-year-old lab technician has died from pneumonia of unknown origin, dozens of people are reportedly in isolation, and Russia's top infectious disease official has reportedly rushed to the region. 53:01As Canada and Europe Team Up Against Trump, Hegseth Unveils His RADICAL New Vision for the Military
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open Thursday with the escalating trade war, now being waged on multiple fronts simultaneously. Trump's outright ban on select Canadian goods — including alcoholic beverages — went into effect earlier this week, after Trump called Canada "one of the worst countries in the entire world." For the third time in under two years, courts have been asked to rule on Trump's tariffs — this latest challenge covering over 99% of U.S. imports. Jess and Scott break down the legal challenge, why Trump keeps trying despite repeated court losses, and what the constant legal uncertainty does to companies and consumers trying to operate in the U.S. Meanwhile, the EU and Canada are reportedly planning to announce a sweeping new partnership at the end of October, covering digital trade, critical minerals stockpiling, and more — a direct response to Trump's trade war. Is this a winning strategy? Yesterday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used his "State of the Force" address at Quantico to announce a new autonomous warfare command, a 20% cut to general and admiral positions, and "Project Meridian" — a new initiative to be led by Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, and Newt Gingrich. Hegseth also called press coverage of the Iran war "treason." Then they discuss the dramatic incident aboard a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, where a co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the plane carrying mostly Israeli passengers. The aircraft plunged nearly 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds before passengers and crew apparently fought their way into the cockpit and subdued the co-pilot. The flight landed safely in Saudi Arabia, where the co-pilot is now in custody. The airline says the motive is still under investigation. Is this a terrorism case — or is it too early to say? Finally, the candidates for California governor faced off in a debate last night. Xavier Becerra and Steve Hilton squared off on taxes, immigration, and Hilton's relationship with Trump in a state that is also one of the world's largest economies. Kalshi has Becerra at 96% likely to win in November. What does this race tell us about broader national dynamics? 44:55Ken Paxton CAUGHT on HOT MIC Trash-Talking Trump
Jessica's book I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends is out now — pick it up here: https://sites.prh.com/idisagree Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas are back for Raging Perspective with 35 days until the midterms. They open with a bombshell recording obtained by the New York Times: Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee in Texas and longtime Trump ally, is privately admitting that Trump may be hurting him and other Republicans politically. In the recording, Paxton says his numbers — and everyone else's — dropped after the recent Trump-led GOP “midterm convention” in Dallas. How bad is this for Paxton — and what does it mean for the Texas Senate race? Former special counsel Jack Smith testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, as Senate Republicans hoped to secure a public humiliation of Trump’s political enemies. But a moment between Smith and Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) went viral — and not for the reasons Republicans wanted. Aaron and Jessica react, with an eye toward the expression on Katie Britt's face. Trump is working overtime to make "superintelligence" a thing. All executive branch departments and agencies are now required to use that phrase instead of "artificial intelligence," a change announced after a White House lunch with AI — or is it SI? — leaders. The tech leaders signed what Trump called a "morally binding" agreement to establish AI safety standards — a one-page, voluntary pact calling for four layers of controls and auditing, including internal monitoring, outside evaluators, and independent board oversight. Aaron breaks down why Trump is doubling down on AI when it's becoming increasingly unpopular. Also, the U.S. launched its own branded AI chatbot: America.gov. Aaron shares what he’s learned from the site so far. Plus, a quick check in on the situation in Iran, and Jessica and Aaron take listener questions on Texas, immigration hearings, and Kristi Noem’s divorce. 32:46Did Trump Just Throw Away the Best Chance to End the Iran War?
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov talk about the Iran war's growing economic toll. Trump is once again claiming the U.S. will win in Iran — even as he publicly rejected Tehran's recent offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile oil prices have soared to over $100 a barrel, up from $72 in February before the war began. In the bond market, the ten-year Treasury yield is at its highest level in two decades. With Trump now planning to spend the next 30 days campaigning for Republicans in traditionally red states, he'll have to balance political priorities at home with a war that's increasingly hitting Americans in their wallets. The Trump administration's Education Department has officially rescinded the Biden-era interpretation of Title IX that included protections for sexual orientation and gender identity. Education Secretary Linda McMahon says the move will reduce confusion for parents, students, and educational institutions. Does this actually change much on the ground — or is it primarily about optics for a base that views gender as a defining issue? A new lawsuit has put the “Cornell Seven” back in the spotlight. A former Cornell student alleges she was drugged and sexually assaulted by seven fraternity members in 2024. Prosecutors initially declined to file charges but have now reopened the investigation and are seeking a grand jury review. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Ortez (D-NY) weighed in publicly. Where does the case go from here? In Los Angeles, new polling shows in the mayoral race shows Democratic Socialist city councilmember Nithya Raman leading the incumbent mayor Karen Bass by 11 points — a dramatic reversal from the June primary when Bass finished five points ahead of Raman. 63% of likely voters view Bass unfavorably, with majorities panning her response to the Palisades Fire. Raman is dominating among younger voters, and Kalshi currently has her odds of winning at 57%. How did Raman pull off this turnaround — and will the race tighten before November, or will another of America’s largest and most Democratic cities be led by a DSA member? 41:42Trump’s War on Canada ESCALATES as New Bans Take Effect
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open the week with the Canada trade war entering a new phase: outright bans on Canadian goods including alcoholic beverages, motorcycles, and whey kick in tomorrow. Unlike the earlier tariffs, these bans may not hit the Canadian economy as hard — so what's the intended effect, and does Canada have any reason to come to the table?Meanwhile, Dan Scavino and other notable Republicans are posting AI-generated videos online at a moment when Americans are increasingly worried about AI. Is that helping Republicans — or hurting them? Trump hosted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for dinner on Sunday night, after an appeals court ruling that the Trump administration could block Anthropic from Pentagon contracts. They also discuss Trump’s Oval Office announcement today about a new steel plant being built in Iowa. Scott and Jess talk about what kind of political posturing is going on, and why these moves will do little to make real change in the economy. Over the weekend, Trump 2024 campaign ads re-aired during SNL and NFL broadcasts — but this time, stamped with "Paid for by the U.S. Government.” Ethics lawyers and politicians are objecting to the use of taxpayer money for what are effectively partisan campaign materials. In the tech world: Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel has made a public case for why being evil… isn't all that bad. 42:57Trump’s GOP Support Is CRACKING — Republicans Finally Fight Back
Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas are back for Raging Perspective with 39 days until the midterms. Jessica’s new book I DISAGREE is available now! Get your copy: https://sites.prh.com/idisagree With mortgage rates hitting 7%, diesel prices at historic highs, and gas up 27% year-on-year, the affordability crisis is now front and center in the final stretch — and a growing number of Republicans, including Senate hopefuls in Michigan and Iowa, are publicly breaking with Trump over the Iran war, rising prices, immigration operations, and the questions around funding for Don Jr.'s wedding after-party. Aaron and Jessica debate whether voters will actually buy a last-minute pivot from candidates who followed Trump blindly for years. The Supreme Court has also just cleared the Trump administration to use sensitive federal data to help states identify people deemed ineligible to vote; Aaron and Jess discuss the possible impacts and why this ruling isn’t that surprising. Days after banning CNN, Politico, and MSNOW from the White House, the administration launched "Trump TV" — a 24/7 YouTube stream drawing comparisons to state media in China and North Korea, with tiny ratings so far. A federal court ordered Trump to reverse the press ban, and reporters from the three outlets were allowed back into the White House yesterday — but CNN and MSNOW were then denied access to cover guest arrivals at the Xi state dinner the same night. Where does press freedom go from here? On the Xi state dinner itself: protesters were outside, tech CEOs filled the room, and Trump asked guests if anyone wanted to see the ballroom construction. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has revealed he has considered the remote possibility of a U.S. invasion, following the escalation of Trump's trade war and increasing hostility from Washington. What does it say that the leader of America's closest neighbor is speaking about this publicly? AOC told the New York Times this week that she'll decide after the midterms whether to run for president in 2028 — and that she's aware being a Latina woman could impact her electability. Aaron breaks down the interview, and outlines her potential options. And finally: Illinois Governor JB Pritzker publicly revealed this week that he's lost 80 pounds on a GLP-1 medication. They discuss the buzz around Pritzker’s presidential ambitions and the general chances for state governors. PLUS: Jess and Aaron take listener questions. 36:54Trump Rolls Out Red Carpet for Xi as China Has NEVER Been Stronger
Scott Galloway is joined today by Alice Han for a deep dive into one of the most consequential diplomatic events of Trump's second term: Chinese President Xi Jinping's first state visit to the United States in nearly a decade. Trump personally welcomed Xi at Andrews Air Force Base — the first U.S. president since JFK to receive a foreign counterpart there — rolling out the full diplomatic spectacle of a state dinner and red carpet welcome. Ahead of Xi's arrival, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the U.S. and China have extended their trade truce until January. But underneath the pageantry are much more consequential questions. Alice gives her high-level read on the summit: what Xi actually came to Washington to get, what Trump was looking for, and how much the balance of power between the two countries has shifted since Trump's first term — when China has since become a major player in AI, EVs, robotics, chips, and space. They also talk through international relations and the balance of power not just between the two superpowers, but how Taiwan, Iran, and Ukraine are impacting their relationship. On AI: Bernie Sanders introduced a bill this week to ban artificial superintelligence and establish a Cabinet-level agency to regulate it. The U.S. and China are competing intensely to lead the technology, but both governments are also increasingly alarmed by what these systems can do. Can the two countries cooperate on AI safety while remaining fierce competitors everywhere else? On trade: the two-month truce extension buys time — but what does each country actually need from a longer-term deal, and what are the real sticking points? Trump’s press ban fallout also reached the summit itself: a federal judge ordered the White House to restore access for CNN, MSNOW, and Politico, calling the ban likely unconstitutional. Major TV networks also declined to film Xi's arrival. Alice breaks down how that dynamic — an American president fighting his own press at a state visit — lands in Beijing. And with AOC teasing a 2028 run, JB Pritzker sharing his weight loss journey, and Kamala Harris campaigning with Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, Alice also weighs in on how China is thinking about the 2028 elections and what a new political era in America might mean for the relationship. Finally: looking five to ten years out, is the U.S.-China relationship heading toward a managed rivalry with agreed rules of the road — or into a period of much more intense competition? 49:01The Canada Trade War Could Hand Democrats A Senate Majority (ft. Abdul El-Sayed)
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov start with the biggest headlines of the day, starting with the Canada trade war, which is now having direct consequences for Republicans in the Senate races that will decide chamber control. As Vice President JD Vance stumps in red districts, Kalshi currently puts the odds of Democrats sweeping both the House and Senate at 61%. The $111 billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger has cleared its last major hurdle, with the company and a coalition of state attorneys general led by California's Rob Bonta reaching a settlement on the antitrust lawsuit that had held up the deal. CEO David Ellison plans to close within approximately two weeks. Was this outcome inevitable — and what does it mean for media consolidation? Then, Scott and Jess are joined by Abdul El-Sayed, who is running to become Michigan's next U.S. Senator, bringing years of public health experience including leading the Detroit Health Department and serving as director of Wayne County's Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services. They’ll touch on how the Canada trade war is hitting Michigan voters in their wallets and what Mike Rogers is getting wrong on trade. Plus, why he's campaigning with Kamala Harris when other Democrats in difficult races are keeping their distance — and what role he thinks Harris should play in the party right now. Finally. his position on Israel and Gaza, how he talks to Jewish voters who have concerns about his stance, and whether he will sign a petition from a coalition of Michigan rabbis and Jewish leaders outlining five "nonnegotiables" on Jewish safety and sovereignty. 59:49Trump’s War on the Press BACKFIRES — And the Networks Fight Back
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open a packed week for Trump both foreign and domestic. Trump addresses the 81st UN General Assembly tomorrow, with meetings also planned with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Later this week, Chinese President Xi Jinping visits the White House for a state dinner with a guest list that includes Tim Cook, Sam Altman, and Jensen Huang. And Trump is claiming he has closed a deal with Denmark giving the U.S. "permanent control over security and all other needs" in Greenland — expected to be signed at the UN this week. What should we be watching? Meanwhile, Trump has banned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House, accusing them of reporting "fiction and lies." The three outlets are now suing for access — and today, major TV networks declined White House pool duties in response. A new House Ethics complaint is accusing Representative Lauren Boebert of sexual relationships with three staffers and a $200,000 hush payment to one of them. Boebert's spokesperson is calling it a "politically motivated stunt." Jess weighs in.Plus, Scott clears the record on the current stage of crime and homelessness in San Francisco. Finally, the campaign to convince Kamala Harris not to run in 2028 is gaining momentum. After Gavin Newsom said he'd stand down if she ran, Democratic superdonor Reid Hoffman has now said it would be "a very challenging path for her." Meanwhile Harris has been making public statements about the growing dangers of AI — one of the biggest issues of the midterms. And with or without Harris, Democratic donors are now reportedly open to an AOC run in 2028 — what does that signal? 47:29Trump LOSES IT Over Canada’s New European Alliance (Live from New York)
LIVE from the 92nd Street Y in New York City! Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov take the stage to break down the biggest stories shaping the road to the 2026 midterms — from the growing political backlash over AI, including the unlikely alliance between Bernie Sanders and Steve Bannon, to Trump’s escalating trade fight with Canada and his new threat of tariffs against Europe over Canada’s push for closer ties with the EU. They also dig into Democratic strategy, gerrymandering, election security, and what voters are telling us about the political landscape heading into the midterms. Then, Jessica goes inside her new book, I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends, and shares what she’s learned about having political disagreements without destroying the relationships that matter most — including a difficult on-air exchange with Greg Gutfeld and how to handle that inevitable argument with your loved ones. 1:18:24The Supreme Court Stops Trump's Mail Ballot Plan, Hegseth Faces Impeachment, and Canada Pivots to the EU
Jessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas sit down to talk about the latest political news — and celebrate the publication of Jessica’s new book I DISAGREE — available now! Get your copy: https://sites.prh.com/idisagree They start with the U.S.-Canada trade war showing no signs of resolution. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Europe this week pushing for a "unique alliance" between Canada and the EU. They break down what message that sends and what it changes for the longer-term U.S.-Canada relationship. Voting is now officially underway in North Carolina, but the legal fight over mail-in ballots isn't over. The Supreme Court has blocked Trump's plan to have the U.S. Postal Service screen and potentially withhold mail-in ballots, in a brief unsigned opinion noting the plan was likely unlawful. Trump responded by attacking the justices on social media, writing: "These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves." Aaron breaks down the ruling and the state of voter restriction heading into November. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, alleging he waged the Iran war illegally, ignored a congressional order to withdraw, and caused unnecessary civilian casualties. Kalshi currently puts the likelihood of Hegseth leaving his job for any reason by December 1st at 29%. Massie's term is ending this year, after he lost his primary. How bold an action is this really? Republican lawmakers are pushing back on Trump's recent pledge to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain their majority after November. Aaron breaks down why it's actually politically useful for Republicans to distance themselves from this idea right now. New details have emerged about Donald Trump Jr.'s recent wedding in the Bahamas — including an after-party paid for by a Russian businessman. Aaron breaks down what we know about who Umar Kremlev is and what his connection to the Trump family means. And finally: after pressure from venue owners, Macklemore has been dropped as an opening act for Ed Sheeran's stadium tour. The pressure came after Macklemore said "Free Palestine" onstage. The internet has a lot of thoughts. Aaron and Jessica react. 33:08Trump Calls AI Danger a HOAX, Newsom’s Stunning 2028 Pledge, and McConnell RETURNS
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov start with one of the biggest campaign issues of the midterm cycle. Trump is calling the idea that AI could destroy humanity a "hoax" like climate change, arguing the only guardrails needed are a "STRONG AND SMART (HIGH IQ!) PRESIDENT." Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is aligning with Trump, taking a live call from the president during a podcast taping. Meanwhile, former President Obama is calling on Democrats to move AI oversight to the top of their agenda, and even Elon Musk is asking for more industry oversight. AI stocks have been falling amid mounting safety warnings. Is the bubble bursting? Looking ahead to 2028: California Governor Gavin Newsom told CNN's Jake Tapper that if Kamala Harris decides to run again, he'll stand down. Does this reflect a genuine lack of momentum for the 2028 field — or top-notch political maneuvering? Finally, Senator Mitch McConnell returned to the Senate yesterday to cast his first vote after 13 weeks of absence following his hospitalization in mid-June. The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican offered little explanation for the extended absence, which generated intense speculation over his health all summer. 32:0850 Days to Midterms: Trump DOWNPLAYS the AI Apocalypse (ft. Dana Bash)
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov are joined by Dana Bash — CNN's chief political correspondent, anchor of Inside Politics and State of the Union, and author of the new book The Elections That Changed the World: Fifteen Pivotal Moments That Shaped How We Live — available September 22nd. They begin with the midterm landscape, 50 days out. A new poll has Democrats leading Republicans 42% to 30% in enthusiasm to vote — a significant gap. Scott, Jessica, and Dana talk about whether Dems can keep this momentum into November, and whether Mitch McConnell will finally return to Congress now that it's back in session. Anthropic's CEO called for a slowdown in AI development over the weekend, and a new and unlikely alliance has emerged. Bernie Sanders and Steve Bannon are teaming up to advocate for a slowdown in AI development — making opposition to generative AI, Big Tech, and data center buildout among the starkest bipartisan issues of our era. Dana breaks down how growing fears about AI and the data center backlash are shaping the midterm political landscape. Then, Dana's new book. The Elections That Changed the World looks at fifteen elections across history — from Julius Caesar in ancient Rome, all the way to the modern era — that fundamentally shape how we live today. She explains what makes these elections — and any election — truly consequential, how much of our modern political dysfunction has roots in much earlier moments, and which election had consequences most radically different from what voters thought they were choosing at the time. They close with the question: is there room for anyone in the center now? 45:48Trump’s Desperate $5,000 Bribe to Save the GOP Could Blow Up in His Face
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov mark Raging Moderates' two-year anniversary with a packed episode on one of the most significant news days of the year. On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks — and the one-year mark since the Charlie Kirk assassination — Trump and the GOP gathered for night one of the first-ever RNC midterm convention. Trump used the stage to make a remarkable promise: a $5,000 "Trump dividend" for every American adult if Republicans hold onto Congress. Scott and Jess break down night one, react to the surprise cameo by Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, and weigh in on James Talarico doing counter-programming on Fox News, where the Democratic hope of Texas reversed some of his past controversial positions. Also, it’s the two-year anniversary of the launch of Raging Moderates. Scott and Jess revisit some takes from their very first episode. Two years in, how are they feeling about the show and where America stands compared to where it was when they started? And finally: Tomorrow marks 25 years since 9/11. Scott and Jess pause to reflect on the experience of living through that harrowing day. And for Jessica, this tragedy struck very close to home, as she speaks about openly and vulnerably here. 55:18Trump’s GOP Is in Full Panic As Republicans Flee His Convention Flop
The first-ever GOP midterm convention is underway in Dallas, and a number of high-profile Republicans, particularly those in battleground territory, are notably skipping it. The party has even been offering free tickets to help fill seats, at a moment when Trump's approval rating is at an all-time low and oil hits $100 a barrel amid escalating chaos in the Middle East. Trump is competing with NFL kickoff and insisting the American Airlines Center is "totally sold out." What will the vibes be like on the ground, and more importantly - what will ratings look like? Plus, why Aaron thinks the midterms will be closer races than polls would suggest. This week marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is releasing more than 170,000 pages of city records documenting the government's response to the attacks and their aftermath, launching the city's first public portal dedicated to 9/11 records. But controversy surrounds the commemoration: former Mayor Rudy Giuliani says he doesn't want Mamdani at Friday's ceremony, and Trump falsely claimed that firefighters carried him away from the site after the attacks. Aaron and Jessica break down the commentary around Mamdani, how people are grappling with the tension between honoring families' grief and holding the city accountable, and reflecting on how history repeats itself. New disclosures show Trump gave three young White House staffers $45,000 each as Christmas gifts — including executive assistant Natalie Harp, who is rarely more than a few feet from the president. A former White House ethics lawyer says the payments may violate federal law. The White House insists they were simply holiday gifts. Is this generosity — or a serious ethical and legal problem? A senior Anthropic researcher has publicly stated he believes there is more than a 10% chance AI could kill all humans within the next decade — and he's not alone, with several Anthropic researchers now warning publicly that AI could become uncontrollable. Are we actually on track for an AI apocalypse? Plus, Jess and Aaron take listener questions. 33:14The Canada Trade War Might Actually Cost Trump More Than It Costs Canada
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov break down a packed Tuesday, starting with the news that Canada's counter-tariffs are officially in effect — and Trump is escalating rather than negotiating. In recent days he has threatened to bar Bombardier from the U.S. market unless it builds there, accused Canada of blocking American banks and companies while benefiting from American customers, and floated ending all trade with Canada entirely. How does this end? The Republican National Committee is holding its first-ever midterm national convention this week. Unlike a presidential nominating convention, there is no party business or nominations, which means it's shaping up to be a two-night Trump rally. Scott and Jess break down what to expect from the event, and why Democrats aren't hosting something similar. Is it a missed opportunity? An Israeli newspaper is reporting that Prime Minister Netanyahu was personally warned by UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed that Hamas was planning a major offensive roughly ten days before the October 7, 2023 attack. What implications does this have for the ongoing conflict in the region today? It has now been three months since Mitch McConnell was last present in the Senate. Will Republicans start publicly demanding he resign — and what happens to his seat if he does? Plus, the Trump administration has proposed a new child care subsidy that would let married couples in certain income brackets collect money if one parent stays home — funded by redirecting money from the $12 billion Child Care and Development Fund, which was created to help low and moderate income parents work or attend school. The program currently provides about $9,000 per child per year. Who benefits from this proposal — and who gets left out? 47:15The Economy Is Sending Trump a WARNING Republicans Can’t Ignore
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open by addressing a warning signal that Washington appears to be ignoring: the 10-year Treasury yield just hit 4.81% — up from 4.20% in January — while the 30-year remains at levels not seen this persistently since 2006. With a $2 trillion deficit, potentially billions in tariff refunds, and a Fed that could raise rates to fight inflation that’s now at 3.4% annually, the economic picture heading into the midterms is… complicated. Are Republicans turning away from these issues in order to keep Trump happy — and how likely is an interest rate hike from Trump's own Fed chair? The Trump administration is doubling down on AI data centers — even as about 70% of Americans say they oppose building one in their community. Trump says communities against them "want to be backwards and poor," while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is calling concerns about their water use propaganda from U.S. adversaries. Scott and Jess break down why this has become such a political flashpoint — and why Trump is pushing so hard for something so deeply unpopular. U.S. data center power demand is projected to nearly double to 95 GW by the end of 2027, all while electricity prices are rising fast. New York City has rolled out the nation's broadest generative AI moratorium in schools — banning student-facing AI tools for a year for 600,000 students from preschool through 8th grade. Is this a positive step from mayor Zohran Mamdani— or is this setting up NYC’s youth to fall behind? Scott and Jess also connect a policy like this to broader problems facing many Democrat-run cities, such as governing amidst a homelessness crisis in San Francisco. In Massachusetts, 80-year-old Senator Ed Markey, the co-author of the Green New Deal who was first elected to Congress in 1976, successfully fended off a primary challenge from Rep. Seth Moulton. In a cycle defined by younger challengers ousting incumbents, Markey is an outlier, having positioned himself as the more progressive candidate. Does his win say anything meaningful about the age debate — or is this a rare exception? 52:50Is the USPS Helping Trump Rig the Election?
Get your ticket for our live show at 92NY: https://www.92ny.org/event/scott-galloway-and-jessica-tarlovJessica Tarlov and Aaron Parnas are back for Raging Perspective, breaking down the week's biggest stories live. Military strikes between the U.S. and Iran have intensified again after a month of relative quiet — and the markets noticed immediately. The Dow closed down nearly 500 points, oil prices climbed back toward $100 a barrel, and the U.S. private sector added just 38,000 jobs in August, well below forecasts. Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson is being asked about Congress's role in authorizing the use of force — and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned, in what looks like the latest in a pattern of Vance allies departing as Rubio allies gain ground inside the administration. They also preview what the 2028 field might look like, and ask whether Howard Lutnick is becoming the administration’s favorite fall guy. House Democrats are threatening consequences for Representatives Jared Golden and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez after both broke with Democratic leadership to help advance a key Republican procedural vote. Hakeem Jeffries has called it a "significant breach of trust" and asked the caucus rules committee to consider stripping them of their committee assignments. Was this justified — or is the party eating its own? A whistleblower disclosure filed through Senator Blumenthal's office reveals that USPS is rushing out a system to implement Trump's mail voting order — and according to the whistleblower, it is "secretive, rushed, chaotic, and fundamentally flawed." The plan requires states to upload lists of mail voters with barcoded ballot envelopes; if USPS scanners find even one mismatch in a batch, the entire batch — potentially tens of thousands of ballots — gets kicked back to the state instead of delivered. Mail-in voting starts this week. A federal judge has frozen the mandatory part of the rule, but the Justice Department is appealing. Is this the administration getting its way even when it loses in court? In Times Square, a knife-wielding suspect killed 32-year-old Erin Piacenti — a Bank of America vice president and lawyer from New Jersey — on what was her first day back at work after maternity leave. The suspect, a 49-year-old woman, was shot and killed by NYPD after graphic video of the confrontation spread widely on social media. Jessica and Aaron break down what we know. 32:51Scott's Back — And So Are Iran Strikes, the Canada Trade War, and a Very Smelly TikTok Trend
Get your tickets now for our live show at 92NY: https://www.92ny.org/event/scott-galloway-and-jessica-tarlov Scott Galloway is back — and so is the Iran war. He joins Jessica Tarlov to discuss the new round of fire between the U.S. and Iran after a month-long lull in military strikes. The resumption comes alongside growing fractures inside the administration: Army Secretary Dan Driscoll resigned after months of tension with Secretary Pete Hegseth, six months into a war with no visible endgame. There are reports that senior military leaders have warned Hegseth that current operations aren't sustainable. Meanwhile, Hegseth was spotted in Iowa looking increasingly like a 2028 presidential candidate, and Trump has now weighed in on the idea. The Canada tariff deadline is one week away. Canadian retaliatory tariffs kick in on September 8th, focused on politically sensitive goods like steel, dairy, appliances, and construction materials. Scott and Jess debate whether Trump will blink before the deadline, whether Canada is right to hold its ground, and what it means if Canada starts pivoting to new long-term trading partners and strengthening ties with other allies. With nine weeks until the midterm elections, Scott gets caught up on everything he missed. The odds of Republicans keeping Senate control are 52% on Kalshi, but Jess breaks down the mounting favorables for Democrats headed into November. How will 2026 stack up against the 2018 “blue wave”? And finally: a particularly funky TikTok trend involves skipping showers, ditching deodorant, wearing the same clothes for days, and — for the truly committed — drinking one’s own urine… all in pursuit of a "natural musk,” supposedly more attractive to women. Scott and Jess ask who exactly benefits from pushing this narrative on social media. 49:37Trump’s Foreign Policy Could Define the Midterms — And He’s Losing
Jessica Tarlov is joined by Ryan Grim, reporter at Drop Site News and co-host of Breaking Points, for a wide-ranging conversation nine weeks before the midterms. They open with the state of the races. Democrats have flipped roughly 30 state legislative seats in special elections since Trump returned to office, while Republicans have flipped none. With a wave of progressives and anti-establishment candidates winning primaries, can Democrats make the big tent work in the general? And how would Ryan rate the Republican strategy heading into the fall? They check in on the race in Michigan with progressive Abdul Al-Sayed. And one primary still to watch: Massachusetts, where 80-year-old Senator Ed Markey is running for another six-year term against Rep. Seth Moulton. In a cycle where incumbents have been falling to younger, more progressive challengers, Markey has uniquely positioned himself as the more progressive candidate — touting his record as coauthor of the Green New Deal. Polling has him far ahead of the younger Moulton. What does Markey's campaign tell us about where the Democratic Party is heading? Then, according to reporting in The Washington Post, a classified Pentagon planning document revealed that senior U.S. military leaders have warned Secretary Pete Hegseth that sustaining current operations against Iran isn't feasible. Ryan breaks down how dire the situation actually is — and what it means that these officials are putting this on record, knowing how Hegseth treats military leaders who push back. A New York Times investigation has found that a growing number of political influencers are being paid by campaigns and outside groups to endorse candidates on social media without disclosing those payments to viewers, a practice that is largely unregulated at the federal level. And, more distressingly, the Pentagon appears to also have certain content creators on their payroll. What does this mean for the future of political media? On the Canada trade war: Google Maps has renamed Lake Ontario "Lake America" for U.S. users, following the Gulf of Mexico precedent. Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers are speaking out against Trump's tariff escalation and his decision to allow 300,000 tons of foreign beef into the country duty-free. Is this another Trump news cycle that ends in a backdown — or something more serious? 37:23Trump's Canada Trade War Is Destroying Republicans in the Exact States They Need to Win
Jessica Tarlov is joined by Katie Phang, lawyer, legal analyst, and host of the MeidasTouch podcast Sidebar with Katie Phang. They open discussing Trump’s trade war with Canada, which is now landing squarely on the swing-state Republicans who were hoping tariffs had faded from the headlines. Border state lawmakers in Maine and Michigan are feeling the blowback, as are agricultural strongholds like Iowa and North Carolina. Trump's move to temporarily ease tariffs on imported beef has rural GOP lawmakers worried, especially after the FDA issued multiple meat recalls including one this month on ground beef imported from Argentina. Is this Trump simply not caring about down-ballot Republicans? Jess and Katie check in on the current civil war in the Democratic party. Will the establishment wing move left, after a number of DSA primary wins across the country? Have the Democratic purity tests gone too far? The Trump administration has paused immigrant visa interviews at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide, just days after a federal judge ruled that an earlier blanket visa freeze on 75 countries was unlawful. Simultaneously, the administration is preparing to revoke up to 200,000 business and tourism visas from foreigners who applied for asylum — potentially the single largest mass visa revocation in U.S. history. Katie breaks down the political calculus behind continuing these moves. Two days after the Supreme Court handed the Trump administration a procedural win on their efforts to restrict mail-in voting, Democratic-led states are back in court, challenging the finalized USPS rule that would restrict who gets mailed a ballot. Katie assesses the true implications of the SCOTUS ruling, in light of the ongoing nationwide injunction that still blocks the rule for November, and whether the real strategy here is simply to sow enough confusion to suppress turnout. Meta has agreed to settle claims from a bipartisan coalition of state attorneys general that it knowingly designed Instagram and Facebook to be addictive to children — agreeing to pay up to $17.1 billion and committing to new usage restrictions for under-18 users. Is this a genuine reckoning for social media — or a settlement that lets the industry off the hook? In South Carolina, Darline Graham — sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham — has won her GOP runoff and will face Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews in November. Kalshi has Graham winning the seat at 86%. Katie weighs in on whether a Democrat could ever realistically compete in this race. And finally, remembering Dolly Parton. Dolly, you will be missed. 51:03Democrats in Fox News Territory, the Paramount Merger Crisis, and Data Center Outrage
Get your tickets now for our live show at 92NY: https://www.92ny.org/event/scott-galloway-and-jessica-tarlov Jessica Tarlov is joined by Michael Grynbaum, media correspondent at The New York Times and author of Empire of the Elite: Inside Condé Nast, for a conversation on media strategy, corporate power, and the political landscape with just over two months until the midterms. They open with a question Jessica is uniquely positioned to ask: should Democrats be doing more appearances on conservative media? Yesterday, progressive Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed joined Fox News primetime host Jesse Watters. Jessica and Michael break down whether El-Sayed came out on top, and whether the broader strategy of reaching voters outside the Democratic media ecosystem is paying off. Can Democrats appeal to working-class men by embracing “bro-iness”? The Paramount/Warner Bros. merger is on ice; the $111 billion deal has cleared all required regulatory approvals but remains frozen by an antitrust suit from a coalition of states led by California. Michael, who covers the Ellison family and the media industry closely, breaks down whether the merger might actually be stopped, where media concentration goes next, and if this is a signal of upheaval for Hollywood. They also talk about some recent high-profile personnel moves at CBS, CNN, and The New York Times. Data centers have become one of the hottest campaign issues in the 2026 midterms. Ads running in Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania are all hammering candidates over their support of data center development. Michael and Jessica discuss why voters are latching onto this issue — and whether it's really about data centers, or a much broader anxiety about AI, inequality, and the economy. Plus: Michael's book Empire of the Elite: Inside Condé Nast is newly out in paperback — and it comes at a moment when major media companies are settling lawsuits with the president. He talks about what’s changed in the landscape of media and power in just a year since its first publication. 54:18Trump Just Turned Canada Into an Enemy — Carney Is Fighting Back (ft. Anne Applebaum)
Jessica Tarlov is joined by Anne Applebaum, staff writer for The Atlantic and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian. They open with the U.S.-Canada trade war, which escalated dramatically over the weekend when talks collapsed minutes before a deadline, triggering 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian goods including hockey sticks, building materials, liquor, and clothing. Trump responded by saying Canada "wants the benefits of being a state, without being one." Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by declaring the U.S. "at war" with Canada and announcing dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics, effective September 8th. Is Carney showing the kind of resolve other foreign leaders should be emulating? On the bigger world stage, Jess and Anne take a look at the precarious state of U.S. alliances — NATO, in particular. Eastern allies are now offering to shoulder more of the costs of hosting U.S. troops, apparently in an effort to appease Trump, as the U.S. continues to scale back its commitments to the alliance. Anne and Jess assess NATO's options in the context of an ongoing Ukraine war and a retreating America, and whether the long-term survival of the alliance is genuinely at risk. Six months into the Iran conflict with no end in sight, the Trump administration is dramatically escalating economic pressure. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is unveiling what he calls the "single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary," threatening to isolate any country that continues doing business with Iran. Iran's currency has hit a record low, divisions are emerging within its leadership over whether to fight or talk, and Iran is warning neighboring countries that aligning with the U.S. could constitute an "act of war." They also discuss how the relationship between the U.S. and Israel is shifting as a result of this conflict. Stars and Stripes, the independent military newspaper, has been reporting on the 1,300 military families evacuated from Bahrain who, six months into the Iran war, still cannot return home and are facing tens of thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses. Defense Secretary Hegseth has now fired senior staffers at the paper. Anne and Jessica discuss what that move says about press freedom under this administration — and Anne draws on her extensive reporting on Viktor Orbán's Hungary, where a years-long campaign to weaken independent media ultimately failed to save his government. Is there a lesson there for what happens when a government tries to control the information its citizens see? In Ukraine, pressure is mounting on multiple fronts simultaneously. Anti-corruption investigators have released tapes alleging senior officials treated corruption as routine. Former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov is openly challenging Zelensky and calling for elections. Russia is escalating attacks on civilians. Ukraine faces a $27 billion defense shortfall. And political divisions inside Kyiv are deepening. How serious is this political crisis for Zelensky? And finally: the U.S. Army created a 600-soldier drone battalion earlier this year to learn from Ukraine and prepare for the future of warfare. Months later, it's being phased out by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Is this a strategic correction, or is America falling dangerously behind on drone warfare already defining modern battlefields? 50:12Is the Resistance Era of Democratic Politics Finally Over?
Jessica Tarlov is joined by Susan Glasser, staff writer at The New Yorker, for a wide-ranging conversation on where American politics stands heading into the fall. They open with this week's primaries, starting with Alex Vindman's loss in Florida to DSA member Angie Nixon in the Democratic Senate primary. Is the average Democratic voter genuinely moving on from the "Resistance" era? Susan also weighs in on whether establishment-coded, cable-news-famous Democrats losing to base-energized challengers is the real story of this primary season — or whether the DSA narrative is being overblown. And where does anti-establishment sentiment go from here, on both sides of the aisle? When it comes to foreign policy, there continues to be a lack of cohesion in the Republican party, a problem that Glasser says is likely to persist in the post-Trump era. Trump is now promising "unprecedented" economic warfare against Iran, but there seems to be little end in sight. They also touch on what happens with Ukraine in the absence of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Plus: the far right fringe and the young men being drawn into it. James Fishback finished a distant third in the Florida Republican gubernatorial primary, but the fact he gained any traction at all is notable. Nick Fuentes described Fishback as what a “proto-groyper president is gonna look, sound and act like.” What does the rise of this movement among young people tell us about the future of the American right? 51:32Will Tucker Carlson Inherit Trump’s GOP?
Get your tickets now for our live show at 92NY: https://www.92ny.org/event/scott-galloway-and-jessica-tarlov Jessica Tarlov is joined by Paul Begala, CNN political contributor and Democratic strategist, for a frank conversation about where the Democratic Party stands, where it's headed, and whether the old guard is really crumbling. They open with the state of the Democratic Party following a primary season that has seen progressive and DSA-backed candidates notch significant wins. Is the moderate establishment losing its grip — and what does AOC's effort to put "Woke 1.0" in the past say about how progressives are repositioning themselves? Then, a deep dive on James Talarico and what his rise says about the Democratic Party's future. Talarico has hired Jacob Smith, a former aide to John Cornyn, as deputy political director. Jesse Watters has been visibly rattled on Fox News by the prospect of Ken Paxton losing. Paul grades Talarico's campaign, breaks down the attack lines flying in both directions — including accusations that Paxton stole pens, and Republican attacks calling Talarico "too loco for Texas" and a vegan — and gives his honest assessment of whether Texas can actually turn blue. Looking ahead to 2028: Tucker Carlson is denying interest in running, but the third party conversation isn't going away. Paul thinks Carlson will run and explains Carlson’s strengths and how he stacks up to other Republican potential candidates.Plus: Jon Ossoff gives a speech about Trump’s negligence but also made a comment about Natalie Harp, one of Trump’s closest aides. She's his executive assistant and has become a fixture in his inner circle, frequently traveling with him and appearing alongside him, and the comment clearly hit a nerve with the White House. 55:25AOC’s Egg-Freezing Story Could Launch Her Presidential Run
Jessica Tarlov is joined by New York Times national political correspondent Shane Goldmacher, to check in on where the midterms stand with primary season almost wrapped up. With the results from Michigan and Wisconsin, Jess and Shane break down what voters are signaling to the Democratic Party. Is this a Tea Party-style insurgency from the left, or something more complicated? Could Michigan Senate candidate and progressive Abdul El-Sayed be a difference maker or a liability in a state Trump won in 2024? Shane also assesses where Republicans stand amidst low approval ratings for Trump, a tough economic backdrop — but with a significant advantage in terms of cash on hand about to be deployed in ad buys across the country. The Democratic Party has officially announced that South Carolina and Nevada will hold the first primaries of the 2028 presidential election cycle — a deliberate move to prioritize Black voters, who make up roughly two-thirds of South Carolina's Democratic electorate, as well as Latino voters and labor interests with significant sway in Nevada. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has gone public sharing her egg-freezing journey. Shane and Jessica discuss why this kind of personal storytelling resonates with voters — and what AOC's political future might actually look like, whether or not that includes a run for President in 2028. How can she navigate the tension she's likely to face from the Democratic establishment? And finally: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is stepping down at the end of the month. 51:42America, Actually: Who Wants Kamala to run again?
Raging Moderates is taking a short break this week, but we’ve got a great episode from Vox’s America, Actually with Astead Herndon. We’ll be back with regular episodes on August 17th. Despite a bruising defeat in the 2024 presidential election, early polling has Kamala Harris ahead of major Democratic alternatives like Gavin Newsom and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for a 2028 run. Her loyal base says that another White House bid feels like an opportunity to build a real campaign free from the constraints of last time. But there’s a lot of division behind the scenes. This week, Vox’s Astead Herndon travels to a picnic in the crucial primary state of South Carolina to ask voters directly what they think. And then, Astead talks with the prominent Democratic donor John Morgan, who says it’s time to turn the page on the Biden-Harris era entirely. 00:36 Is Kamala Harris running for president (again?)02:20 Democratic insiders make the case for Harris 202805:16 Taking the question to South Carolina voters06:37 Is America ready for a Black woman president?08:56 The generational divide12:25 The “third time’s a charm” perspective18:08 What Democratic donors are thinking24:32 The push for a fresh Democratic bench25:51 Counting the votes from South Carolina This show was edited by Kasia Broussalian, fact-checked by Sarah Schweppe, mixed by Shannon Mahoney, video edited by Christopher Snyder, and hosted by Astead Herndon. 29:57Outsider Candidates vs. The Establishment: Who Can Beat Trumpism?
America has questions — and Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov have answers. In this summer mailbag episode, they tackle listener questions about such topics as: the future of the Democratic Party, whether America’s political system can recover from the Trump era, why election fraud claims persist despite a lack of evidence, and what Americans really mean when they talk about socialism and communism. Plus, they discuss the true meaning of socialism, Scott’s ideal night in New York City, and what’s giving them hope in this turbulent political moment. 45:05Blanche Gets Through Committee as Michigan's Senate Primary Goes to the Polls
Get your tickets now for our live show at 92NY: https://www.92ny.org/event/scott-galloway-and-jessica-tarlov Jessica’s new book I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends will be on sale everywhere September 15th. For more info and to pre-order: https://sites.prh.com/idisagree Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov break down a packed Tuesday, starting with the Senate Judiciary Committee vote advancing Todd Blanche's Attorney General confirmation. Senators Cornyn and Tillis issued a joint statement thanking Blanche for terminating the anti-weaponization fund and limiting Trump's IRS audit deal — but critics are flagging loopholes in the written agreements, and Democrats were vocal in their objections during today's hearing. Scott and Jessica ask what Cornyn and Tillis actually achieved, why they ultimately caved, and what Trump's growing involvement in the DOJ means for the department's long-term independence. Meanwhile, Jeanine Pirro met with Trump at the White House yesterday after he publicly said she "choked" in her handling of the reflecting pool vandalism case. She was seen leaving with a box and a briefcase. Trump is claiming she was pressured by a judge — but what does it say about DOJ independence when a federal prosecutor the president handpicked can be publicly humiliated and apparently removed for a decision she made on the merits? It's Michigan primary day — and the Senate race has become the proxy war of the 2026 cycle. Progressive Abdul El-Sayed, backed by Bernie Sanders and AOC, is favored heavily over establishment pick Haley Stevens, who has Governor Whitmer, Senator Schumer, and outgoing Senator Gary Peters in her corner. Kalshi has El-Sayed's odds of winning at 98%. Scott and Jessica break down what an El-Sayed victory means for the Democratic Party's direction — and for Michigan's chances of flipping the Senate seat in November. The House Ethics Committee is recommending that Representative Chuck Edwards be censured, finding substantial reason to believe he engaged in a pattern of unwanted advances and inappropriate conduct toward two young female staffers. In the context of the Graham Platner scandal and the ongoing allegations against Representative Max Miller, what does this say about accountability across both parties? 49:05Trump Corruption Stories Stack Up as Blanche Gets Back on Track to Confirmation
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov start by debriefing Scott’s appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, and recapping Maher’s rant against the far-left of the Democratic Party. Then, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is reportedly back on track toward confirmation, after issuing a notice claiming to rescind the $1.8 billion IRS settlement fund — the so-called “anti-weaponization fund” — and narrowing the scope of IRS audit immunity granted to Trump and his family — satisfying the demands of Senators Cornyn and Tillis. Trump Media & Technology Group — who owns Trump’s social media network Truth Social —has launched a subscription data service giving traders and investors early access to posts from the biggest accounts — including the president's — for up to $100,000 a month. And Capital One Bank has revealed it closed multiple bank accounts belonging to Trump's real estate company in 2021 following a review by its anti-money-laundering team. When does the corruption end, and what's actually being done? U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro has dropped felony vandalism charges against a former Olympic canoeist after documents revealed the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool damage was actually caused by a contractor's flawed installation. The Commerce Department announced last week its intent to take minority stakes in seven private companies in exchange for federal grant funding under the CHIPS and Science Act, creating over $870 million in incentives for the semiconductor companies involved. RFK Jr. appeared on CNN over the weekend in a heated exchange with Dana Bash over vaccine safety and the early days of COVID. He went on to say he was not responsible for the current measles outbreak, and that he recommends parents vaccinate their children for measles. Scott and Jessica break down whether RFK is using the Fauci diaries to discredit scientists and experts more broadly. And finally: Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) has at last broken his silence, and has publicly called out his former son-in-law, Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), saying that Miller "should not serve in the House" following domestic abuse allegations from Miller’s ex-wife: Moreno's daughter, Emily. Miller responded in a social media livestream denying the allegations and vowing to win re-election. Will there be more Republicans speaking out? 50:26Trump Has No Strategy as the Iran War Widens and Blanche's Confirmation Falls Apart
Scott Galloway is joined by Sarah Longwell, founder and publisher of The Bulwark, and author of the upcoming book How to Eat an Elephant: One Voter at a Time. The U.S. launched strikes against Iran overnight as the war dramatically widened in scope. Meanwhile, top Trump officials reportedly cannot agree on a strategy for moving forward. Sarah breaks down whether we've reached a genuine tipping point toward a broader regional conflict — and whether there's anything Trump could do to win back public support for a war that even many Republicans oppose. In Congress, Todd Blanche’s confirmation is on the brink. A committee vote to advance his nomination as attorney general has been delayed after Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) expressed concerns about Trump's IRS settlement deal — demanding a written guarantee that any audit shield would only cover past tax returns, not future ones. Neither Cornyn nor Tillis is returning to Congress after this term. Sarah weighs in on what it means that lame duck Republicans are the ones displaying even the tiniest bit of backbone. In the federal case against former FBI Director James Comey, which centers around a photo he posted of seashells arranged to spell “86 47,” defense attorneys are seeking dismissal, alleging Trump directed illegal Secret Service surveillance of Comey — with agents reportedly feeding real-time information directly to the president. Republican Congressman Max Miller of Ohio is facing serious domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno — who is also the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH). In the wake of the Graham Platner scandal on the Democratic side, why aren't Republicans speaking out — and what does that tell us about the differences between the parties on accountability? In Texas, Democratic Senate contender James Talarico has proven to be a strong fundraiser against Trump-backed Republican Ken Paxton — who beat out Senator John Cornyn in the primary earlier this year but has yet to see substantial support from major Republican money committees. What's going on with Republican fundraising in Texas? On the economy: the Federal Reserve has held interest rates steady, but pressure is mounting with inflation remaining above the Fed's 2% target for over five years and U.S. economic growth slowing in the second quarter. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh says the Fed will not hesitate to act. Plus, Scott and Sarah pull back the curtain on both Prof G and The Bulwark's media operations. They talk about challenges they’ve each faced by being in the politics space, share strategies for fostering community, and give some powerful advice for all creators. 45:20Michigan's Senate Primary Could Give Democrats Their Clearest Midterm Message Yet
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov preview Michigan's August 4th Senate primary, starting with last night's televised debate between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and moderate Haley Stevens. Hot topics were: Israel, AIPAC, utility costs, and who would actually focus on Michigan dominated the exchanges. Trump was also in Michigan yesterday, appearing at a General Motors facility to tout his tariffs and their promised benefits for the auto industry — while blaming Biden and Obama for the state's economic struggles. Will his "the economy is great" message land in a state that's felt real manufacturing pain? The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to clear the way for a sweeping executive order placing major new restrictions on mail-in voting ahead of the midterms, following a loss in the lower courts. Trump is also pressuring Senate Majority Leader John Thune to pass the SAVE America Act before the August recess, even raising a call to end the filibuster in order to do so. Why is Trump pushing so hard on voting restrictions — and how worried should Americans be about the integrity of the November elections? Day one of Lindsey Graham's funeral services was held today, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky both in attendance — and both meeting individually with Trump while in Washington. It's Trump and Netanyahu's first face-to-face meeting since the start of the Iran war. Is there any chance this meeting moves the needle on the conflict? Ahead of Dr. Anthony Fauci's subpoenaed testimony before the Senate Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul has released over 1,100 pages of Fauci's personal diary. Do these documents tell us anything new about COVID's origins — or just the private thoughts of a health professional whose celebrity was on the rise? 53:13Trump Pauses Iran Strikes as Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon Comes Under Fire
Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov open the week with the latest news on Iran: U.S. strikes are on hold, with Trump pausing major escalation amid growing concerns from advisors about diminished air defense munitions stockpiles in the Middle East. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz addressed the stockpile issue publicly this week, blaming it on former President Biden. Meanwhile, a separate and deeply troubling story: the Pentagon has quietly lowered its official count of U.S. troops killed in the Iran war on its website. Scott and Jessica break down what to make of that. Also under scrutiny: new reporting reveals that Hegseth's pick to lead the Navy, Admiral Daryl Caudle, was previously the subject of an inspector general investigation — and was represented by an attorney who is currently a special adviser to Hegseth himself. What toll will this culture of corruption wreak on the future of the U.S. military? With less than 100 days until the midterms, Scott and Jessica take stock of where Democrats stand. In Maine, Troy Jackson is now the official Senate nominee, and leads Kalshi markets at 62% to win the seat. But nationally, the DNC is facing ongoing concerns about a cash shortage — even as individuals like Hakeem Jeffries and John Ossoff are raising significant sums. Republicans have circulated a new version of a major cryptocurrency bill — the CLARITY Act — but the sticking point is the ethics clause. The Trump family has made over $2.3 billion through crypto ventures since the start of the second term, and Senate Democrats want a provision addressing that conflict of interest. Will it pass? Finally, the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner was held Friday and Trump used the occasion to go after CNN's Kaitlan Collins. Should this event get cancelled?
