  1. What 2,000 Episodes Taught Me About Greatness and Consistency | Lewis Howes

Most of us were taught that if you want something badly enough, you have to chase it. After 2,000 episodes and 13 years without missing a week, Lewis Howes has learned the opposite, and it comes down to consistency. The life you want starts coming toward you when you keep showing up, serve other people and do the work on the inside. In this solo milestone episode, Lewis looks back on the road from an iPhone in his living room to a show heard in more than 100 countries. He shares the four lessons 2,000 conversations taught him about building a life that pulls your dreams toward you. They cover consistency, service, knowing who you’re building for and the inner work that lets good things stay. It’s a journey that started with a first grader who wrote a poem about hating school and grew up to build a school of his own. The dreams worth having don’t come from chasing harder. They come from who you become by showing up week after week. Make Money Easy The School of Greatness The Greatness Mindset The Mask of Masculinity In this episode you will: Learn why committing for years, not months, gives you the freedom to keep going when no one is listening yet Discover why most people quit right before things start coming to them See how serving others builds relationships that outlast ego and open doors you can’t open alone Get clear on who you’re building for so the right people find you Understand why inner work is what lets good things stay once they arrive Hear how Lewis’s definition of greatness has changed over 2,000 conversations, and what he’s building toward next For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/2000 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 2. You Can't Buy Inner Peace, Here's How to Find It | Yung Pueblo

You can't buy inner peace, no matter how much money or success you pile up. Yung Pueblo, an author who has meditated two hours every day for more than a decade and has finished a 60 day silent retreat, sat down with Lewis to talk about what inner peace feels like day to day. For him, it means having enough space in your mind to feel tension without letting it run your actions. Meditation got tested first in his relationship. He and his wife Sarah spent six years in what he calls a hurricane of blame. They were on a break when he sat his first 10 day retreat, and two weeks later he proposed with the tiny ring his dad had once given his mom. You'll hear why the lightning fast reaction you think is the real you is your past self defending itself, and why slowing down gives you a pause button. His book Journey: The Year That Changes Everything keeps coming back to that practice, along with lining up your values with your intuition. The next time you're about to snap at someone you love, you might catch it a beat sooner and let it pass. 3. Let Go of Expectations and Attract What You Desire | Lewis Howes

The thing you want most might be closer than you think, and the expectations you keep gripping could be what keeps pushing it away. Lewis goes solo in this episode to walk through five expectations that block money, love and your peace. He starts with the silent contract so many hard workers carry: I did this, so I’m owed that. He tells you about making zero dollars from his podcast for the first year, and about sleeping on his sister’s couch when a mentor told him, “Money comes to you when you’re ready for it.” He also explains why he asked his wife Martha to start therapy at the very beginning of their relationship, and how she answered, “That sounds exciting.” You’ll hear why comparing your year one to someone else’s year ten will wreck your peace, and why a simple “Would you be willing to...” can fix relationships that silent hints keep breaking. There’s also the goal he has chased for eight years without hitting it, and what changed once he stopped demanding a timeline for it. Afterward you may find yourself writing down your own silent contracts and checking the numbers less. You might ask someone for what you actually need, too, while you keep doing the work and keep your standard high. Make Money Easy The School of Greatness The Greatness Mindset The Mask of Masculinity In this episode you will: Run the silent contracts exercise to expose the hidden “I’m owed” thoughts ending relationships Replace expectations with the “Would you be willing to” ask so people choose yes Drop made-up timelines that make real progress still feel like falling behind Track your daily effort instead of the numbers to escape comparison and resentment Release neediness so the opportunities and people you want can finally find you For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1998 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 4. Heal Your Trauma or Stay at War With Yourself | Robin Sharma

The trauma you never healed is running your relationships and your work. Robin Sharma, author of The Everyday Hero Manifesto, tells Lewis about the day ten years of his private journals vanished from a cupboard, along with every fear and heartbreak he had written in them. What he took from losing them was the ability to let go. He walks through a tool he calls AFRA: the moment you get triggered, you find the feeling in your body and ask what old wound just woke up. "If it's hysterical, it's historical," he says. The bigger the overreaction, the bigger the thing that was already there. Robin admits he used to be drawn to partners who created a crisis whenever things got peaceful, and he owns his part in that. He also passes on a divorce lawyer's test for a relationship: can you enjoy 10,000 dinners with this person? You'll hear his eight forms of wealth, of which money is only one, and his five great hours rule for productivity. The Wealth Money Can't Buy: The 8 Hidden Habits to Live Your Richest Life The Everyday Hero Manifesto: Activate Your Positivity, Maximize Your Productivity, Serve The World The 5AM Club: Own Your Morning. 5. How to Know You’re on the Right Path | Katt Williams

What if the dark stretch you're in right now is proof your faith is about to pay off? Katt Williams, a comedian with 14 stand-up specials, sat down with Lewis to talk about leaving home at 13 and the moment around age 20 when drug dealing could turn $100 into $700. He asked God for another way to make a living, and comedy showed up. Door-to-door sales taught him that 300 no's buy 30 yeses, and he still tells a joke to himself 35 times in the mirror before any audience hears it. To him the crowd is never wrong, so every silence is feedback he can use. His years as a teenage missionary in Haiti come up too, where he watched starving families choose joy and pride. His memoir, “Nine Lives, No Wives, and 69 Concubines,” lays out his whole life so you can decide for yourself whether any of it was luck. His new podcast, According 2 Katt, is on the way to Netflix. You'll come away treating rejection as information and seeing every hurdle as a chance to jump higher. 6. What Sociopaths Really Feel | Dr. Patric Gagne

People with psychopathy still feel, just differently from everyone around them. Dr. Patric Gagne, a diagnosed sociopath who went on to earn a doctorate and work as a therapist, sat down with Lewis and told the story she tells in Sociopath: A Memoir. As a kid she learned that saying “I don't care” out loud got her in trouble, so she lied, and lying made her feel safe. She talks about the pressure she called a vice, which she relieved by breaking into homes just to sit in the quiet, and the first grade day she stabbed a classmate with a pencil. Then she explains why secondary psychopathy, which may touch 5% of people, is treatable when kids get caught early. You will hear why a therapist who doesn't absorb your pain can be the best container for it, and why stopping someone from crying can stop the brain from healing. She also gets into the shame under people pleasing and narcissism, and the question she asks her own kids: how does it feel when you feel? You may come away a little gentler with the people you never understood, and with the kid you used to be. Sociopath: A Memoir Dr. Patric's Instagram Dr. Patric's Website The Society for the Prevention of Disorders of Aggression In this episode you will: Become a calm container for someone's pain without needing to empathize Raise emotionally aware kids through boundaries, apologies and positive reinforcement instead of punishment Learn why awareness is 80% of the work in changing destructive patterns Discover why psychopaths can feel emotion and what actually separates them from everyone else Spot the warning signs of sociopathy in dating, relationships and business partnerships Break free from people pleasing by choosing honesty over curated, falsified emotions For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1995 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 7. Your Anxiety Is a Smoke Alarm, Not a Broken Brain | Dr. John Delony

What if your anxiety is a smoke alarm, and your body is working perfectly? Dr. John Delony, a mental health expert with two PhDs, sat down with Lewis and said the thing most of us dodge: if you are awake at 2:30 in the morning, something in your life is on fire. Numbing it with a drink or a screen is like duct taping a pillow over the alarm while the house burns around you. Then he got personal. While he was writing Building a Non-Anxious Life, his wife walked into his basement gym and told him, “I'm watching my husband die,” and then, “John, we have enough.” His little girl would not hug him, and in counseling he could not put a fist to his chest and say “I love this guy.” Back then he would have rated himself a zero out of ten on being enough. Now he says nine, and his daughter uses him as a jungle gym. He and Lewis also talk about why “me over us” hurts so many relationships and how paying off debt let him grieve a cousin without a single worry about money. You'll finish this one wanting to put your phone down and ask what your own alarm has been trying to tell you about your marriage and your kids. 8. The Ancient 4-Step Method to Clear Your Mind | Shaolin Master Shi Heng Yi

You keep making the same mistake because you haven't failed enough yet. That sounds harsh until you hear the reasoning, and then it feels like relief. Shi Heng Yi, a 35th generation Shaolin master who has practiced kung fu since age four, sat down with Lewis and explained why manifestation stalls for most people. You can touch the hot plate five times and it still hurts, he says, and one day you simply stop. Lewis admits he touched it about 100 times across 15 to 20 years of relationships before he changed. Then he gets practical. He walks through RAIN, his four step method for a restless or doubting mind: recognize it, accept it, investigate it, and stop identifying with it. He also teaches you to build a skill in focused cycles, 7 days for skin and 30 days for muscle, with more time the deeper the change goes. The cup is the part that stays with you: you arrive empty, and then your parents and your teachers pour their ideas in until you are chasing a life that never came from you. His mindset advice is simple: learn to empty the cup. You will finish this one wanting to pick a single skill to practice and asking which of your goals are actually yours. 9. How Stress Can Cause a Heart Attack (And How to Heal) | Dr. Tara Narula

Stress can give you a real heart attack even when your arteries are perfectly healthy. Doctors call it broken heart syndrome, and it can follow losing someone you love or even winning the lottery. Dr. Tara Narula, a board certified cardiologist and chief medical correspondent for ABC News, sat down with Lewis and shared what her patients say when she asks how they are. Almost nobody mentions blood pressure. They tell her they are overwhelmed, and many of them cry. She knows that fear from the inside. At 22, in medical school, she lost vision in part of her right eye and spent the first weeks reading every stumble as proof of something worse. A note card from her mom with the Serenity Prayer pulled her out of the spiral. In The Healing Power of Resilience she lays out eight tools, and she walks Lewis through acceptance and flexible thinking, then makes the case for purpose and real social connection. She also explains why burnout is the final phase of chronic stress, and why a study across 52 countries found chronically stressed people are twice as likely to have a heart attack. You will finish this one wanting to call a friend for coffee and start practicing resilience before you need it. 10. A Divorce Lawyer on the Small Things That End Marriages | James Sexton

A marriage can end over a bag of granola, a full year before anyone says the word divorce. James Sexton, a divorce lawyer for over two decades, sat down with Lewis and told the story of a client whose husband always quietly restocked her favorite granola. One day the bag ran out and he never noticed. She knew right then that it was over. He calls marriage a technology that fails about 53% of the time, and says most couples put more thought into the wedding cake than into what they are signing. In his book If You're in My Office, It's Already Too Late: A Divorce Lawyer's Guide to Staying Together, he shares what works: send the hard email while the hurt is still small, and get a prenup even when you feel certain. He also explains why infidelity usually starts with lost connection long before anyone cheats. The line I keep repeating to people: the opposite of love is indifference. And he still believes in marriage. He compares it to the lottery, where the prize is so good that it is worth buying a ticket. You will finish this one wanting to do some small, kind thing for your partner tonight without asking for credit. If you care about relationships and honest communication, you will probably start a conversation you have been putting off. 11. Secret Service Agent: How to Get Anyone to Tell You the Truth | Brad Beeler

People tell you the truth when they feel safe, and one raised eyebrow can shut them down. Brad Beeler, who spent 25 years as a US Secret Service agent and polygraph examiner, sat down with Lewis and explained how he got a couple thousand people to open up about the worst things they had ever done. His rule is simple: never punish the disclosure. He once watched a suspect go silent the second a flash of contempt crossed his face. You will hear why a neutral face reads as a threat in first impressions and why lie detection is close to a coin flip, with people getting it right only 54% of the time. Brad watches your feet to see how comfortable you are, and he treats every cue as a check engine light to follow up on later. He also shares the cases he got wrong, including the day he fixated on a 6 foot 4 biker while the quiet man in front of him kept saying “that's not it.” His book, Tell Me Everything, grew out of those mistakes, and the lessons carry straight into your relationships and your parenting. Swap “why did you do that” for “help me understand” and give the other person an off ramp to save face. Lewis admits how hard that is when someone has hurt you, and Brad admits he lost his cool with his own son's coach. After this one, you will catch your own face in the next hard conversation. And you will probably ask one more question before you say “me too.” Tell Me Everything: A Secret Service Agent's Proven Strategies for Earning Trust, Revealing the Truth, and Communicating with Anyone Brad's Website Brad's Instagram In this episode you will: Discover why a Secret Service polygraph expert says spotting lies from body language barely beats a coin flip Create the judgment free environment that makes people feel safe telling you the truth Learn the Buddy framework for giving someone an off-ramp to confess without excusing what they did Build instant rapport with Brad Beeler's FEEL method: family, education, employment, leisure Treat first impressions as a hypothesis so horns and halos stop steering you wrong Protect your face from flashing contempt and shutting down a hard disclosure For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1990 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 12. I Was a Champion on the Field and Broken at Home | Terry Bradshaw

You can win four Super Bowls and still spend every game afraid of losing. Terry Bradshaw, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and longtime host of Fox NFL Sunday, sat down with Lewis and admitted he was never confident as an NFL quarterback. Fear cost him his throwing motion, and he completed just 51.9% of his passes. Underneath it all were his mother’s words when he was eight: you’ll never amount to anything. He talks openly about depression and ADHD, which he didn’t learn about until after football. He also talks about three divorces, and the moment it hit him that the common factor was him. Three years of counseling and a hard look in the mirror later, he married his best friend, a woman who makes him talk about what he’d rather bury. In his memoir Looking for Terry, and in this conversation, he explains why he sobbed over his dog but not his mother, and how his wife taught him to say no. He also shares how his faith held through cancer twice in one year, and why he cares more about kindness than greatness. You’ll come away gentler with your own fear, and maybe ready to ask for the help you’ve been putting off. 13. Budgets Don't Work, Automation Makes You Rich | David Bach

Four out of ten people can't put their hands on $400 in an emergency, and almost none of them know why. David Bach, who spent nine years at Morgan Stanley and co-founded an advisory firm with more than $7 billion on its platform, sat down with Lewis and made the case that budgets fail everyone while automation quietly works. His book The Latte Factor tells the story through a broke travel editor in Brooklyn who works 70 hours a week and never goes anywhere. He also explains the Rule of 72, why a new car payment eats three months of your year, and how selling a home you live in can hand you a quarter million dollars the government never touches. The part that will stay with you has nothing to do with money. His grandmother was broke at 30, saved 50 cents a week in a coffee can, and helped him buy his first share of McDonald's stock when he was seven. On her deathbed at 86, he asked her about regrets. Every single one was a fork in the road where she chose the safe path. Then Lewis puts his own finances on the table and gets told what he's still missing. David talks about sitting in a hospital waiting room days before this conversation, sure his wife was having a stroke, and what that did to his sense of what actually matters. His last piece of advice is about forgiving someone you stopped speaking to. You will pull out your phone and look at your subscriptions. You may also call someone you've been avoiding for years. 14. Why AI Is Making Us Lonelier and How to Truly Connect | Vanessa Van Edwards

The questions you ask on autopilot might be the reason you feel lonely in a room full of people. Vanessa Van Edwards, a behavioral researcher who has studied master conversationalists for two decades, sat down with Lewis to talk about why so much of our talking leaves us empty. One in six people worldwide are affected by loneliness, and she believes the way we talk to AI is quietly changing the way we talk to each other. In her book Conversation, she lays out three levels of connection, from basic facts all the way up to the private story you tell yourself about yourself. She explains why “Been busy?” is the single worst question in small talk, and why asking for stories beats asking for facts every time. The most honest moment comes when Lewis asks what she still struggles with. Her answer is charging for her own work, a belief she traces back to her early twenties, and you get to hear a level three conversation happen live. You will walk into your next dinner or team call ready to say “tell me more” and actually mean it. Pick one person you love and ask them a better question tonight. 15. You Win When You Fail | Jo Koy

Every stage you never took is the only real failure. The rest is just data. Jo Koy, the comedian who has sold out SoFi Stadium and won Showtime at the Apollo, sat down with Lewis and told the story of driving Vegas to LA with a broken taillight for a $40 set, getting a ticket both ways. He rode a Greyhound nine hours home from an unpaid audition. He walked to the front of a line wrapped around a building with a fake resume and a headshot his dad took, and asked a promoter for five minutes she did not have to give him. She gave it to him anyway. Three weeks after crawling through a curtain as an unannounced warm-up act at Def Comedy Jam, he won the Apollo. Years later, when Netflix passed on him, he paid for the special himself, shot it, and brought it back to them. They bought it, and then he broke Mariah Carey's attendance record in Hawaii with 22,000 tickets. He still prints flyers. Ten thousand of them, for sold-out shows, put on windshields by hand. He talks about his mom rolling lumpia to sell at work during her divorce, about his stepdad teaching him that a messy bed is a messy head, about hugging his son on stage in the same arena where he watched Eddie Murphy at fifteen. This one will make you uncomfortable in the best way, because you will start counting the lines you did not walk to the front of. Jo's definition of greatness is doing what you love for absolutely nothing, and he says he is still asleep, still dreaming the thing he dreamed at nine. 16. You're Not Unprepared, You're Afraid to Start | Lewis Howes

You already know where to start. What scares you is finding out you might not be good enough once you do. Lewis goes solo here on the fear that hides inside preparation. He read every page of a 500-page book before his first Tony Robbins interview and still walked in nervous, and that nervousness never actually went away. Then there was Kobe Bryant. A 5pm phone call the night before, an interview the next morning, 20 minutes, a publicist handing over a list of banned topics, other crews waiting in the hallway. With almost no prep time, it became one of the best conversations Lewis has ever recorded, because he stopped performing his homework and just stayed present and curious. He gets honest about launching The School of Greatness with an iPhone and no idea what he was doing, asking questions he thought were basic and dumb. Confidence came after the action, never before it. Perfectionism and procrastination wear the same costume, and self-trust only gets built by surviving the attempt. 17. Burnout Is a Sign You're Doing the Wrong Work | Jonathan Fields

What if your body is already telling you the work you do every day is wrong for you? Jonathan Fields, founder of Good Life Project and a former securities lawyer, sat down with Lewis to answer the question so many of us carry around: what should I do with my life? He shares how 100 hour weeks at a big law firm ended with an infection eating a hole through his intestine and a trip to emergency surgery. From there you hear why burnout keeps climbing, why an existential crisis is really a crisis of meaning, and how collapsed boundaries between home and work make it worse. Lewis opens up about eczema that cleared within days once he stopped abandoning himself in his relationships and career. Jonathan walks through the ideas in his book Sparked: Discover Your Unique Imprint for Work That Makes You Come Alive, and Lewis learns he is a Maven who hates Essentialist work. You also get Jonathan’s blunt question for finding purpose: what should I just stop doing entirely? 18. 7 Signs You're About to Get Rich | Lewis Howes

There are seven quiet signals that show up in your life long before the money does, and most of them feel like losing. In this solo episode, Lewis walks you through the money mindset shifts he lived from his sister's couch to a life where his investing runs on autopilot. He tells you about the networking event where he stuffed cheese and crackers into his pockets with a full arm cast on, because he had no idea where his next meal was coming from. Then comes the number that stops you cold: 48% of people earning over $250,000 a year are still living paycheck to paycheck. A raise was never the answer. Lewis walks through why rich is a number and free is a length of time, and why saying no to a $20,000 sponsorship or a $10,000 coaching call felt like losing his mind right up until it felt like peace. You will hear how one conversation at a salsa club sent him to Toastmasters and rewired what he could charge, and how he bought a life insurance policy in his twenties for a wife and kids who did not exist yet. By the end you will have one small assignment: take what you have, divide it by what you spend in a month, and look at the number without flinching. Then start adding months. Make Money Easy The School of Greatness The Greatness Mindset The Mask of Masculinity In this episode you will: Spot the seven quiet signs that wealth is already arriving before anyone else confirms it Climb Myron Golden's Four Levels of Value so you get paid for deciding and imagining instead of grinding harder Dismantle the scarcity habits that keep hardworking people stuck, including judging the rich and hoarding out of fear Reclaim your peace by saying no to real money that violates your values, the way Lewis Howes turned down millions in sponsorships Measure your runway in months rather than chasing a net worth number, so freedom becomes something you can count Break the paycheck to paycheck trap that still swallows nearly half of people earning over $250,000 a year For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1984 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 19. Stop Grinding: Build a Business You Don't Hate | Codie Sanchez

What if the grind you think makes you successful is the very thing keeping you broke and exhausted? Codie Sanchez, a former Goldman Sachs employee who has run 1,621 businesses through her company’s systems, sat down with Lewis to talk about money, freedom, and why most entrepreneurs across the US earn less than California’s $78,000 minimum wage. Her book Own or Be Owned is built on one uncomfortable question: do you own a business, or does it own you? She tells the story of walking into a bank for a loan and finding the account she thought held a million dollars almost empty. That night she sat in the dark and called her dad, who told her you are not really in the game until you have had a night like that. She never ran a business without systems again. The fixes she shares are simpler than you expect. Most businesses are underpriced by 30 to 300 percent, fewer than a third have recurring revenue, and hard work has almost nothing to do with how much money you make. She also explains why more than 80 percent of kids want nothing to do with their parents’ business. You will finish this one ready to raise your prices and build a life where work fits around the people you love. 20. Your Phone Is Stealing the Life You Actually Want | Cal Newport

You have been trained to reach for your phone the second you get bored, and it is quietly costing you the ability to think. Cal Newport, a computer science professor and the author of Deep Work, sat down with Lewis and explained why he has never once had a social media account. He also wrote Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World, and to test the idea he ran a 30-day declutter with about 1,600 readers who sent back reports on what happened when they stepped away. The results are hard to shake. Roughly half found no real value in social media and dropped it for good. Of the half who did find value, like visual artists who needed Instagram to see other people's work, about 95% moved it off their phones entirely and onto a scheduled desktop session, sometimes twenty minutes on a Sunday night. Cal also points to college mental health centers that saw anxiety cases jump around fivefold the same year students started arriving on campus with smartphones. Lewis tells his own story here too. Fifteen straight years with a phone on him every single day, then a trip to Hawaii where he left it at home. He got lost, asked strangers for directions at a gas station, and by day two he was floating in the ocean with zero anxiety. Cal calls that the baseline, not a breakthrough. Listen and you will start noticing the small reach for your pocket at dinner, in line, on a walk. Then you will try leaving the thing at home once, and find out what your own thoughts sound like again. Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout A World Without Email: Reimagining Work in an Age of Communication Overload Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World So Good They Can't Ignore You: Why Skills Trump Passion in the Quest for Work You Love Cal's YouTube In this episode you will: Reclaim the ability to focus deeply at a moment when concentration is becoming rare and therefore economically valuable Confront the hard personal questions your phone lets you escape, instead of numbing boredom with a constant digital companion Understand why campus anxiety disorders spiked once students arrived carrying smartphones, and what that means for your own mental health Practice productive meditation, the walking based cognitive pull ups that train your brain to think through problems without a screen Rebuild real connection by trading likes for sacrificed time and attention, the only currency that makes relationships deepen For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1982 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 21. Rebuild Your Identity in 3 Steps and Finally Make Habits Last | Dr. Kim Foster

You can have every fact, every plan, and still quit by Thursday, because the story underneath never changed. Dr. Kim Foster, a family physician who practiced for twenty years, sat down with Lewis after a patient with rising blood pressure told her, “I'm just not an exercise person.” That one line reframed everything: behavior change is an identity problem wearing an information costume. Her book, Redesigning You, turns that into a three-step method of recognizing the old story, redesigning it, and then going out to collect proof. She talks about the bridge identity, the small believable stretch your brain will actually accept instead of a mirror affirmation it answers with, “Interesting. Based on what?” Habit stacking is the app. Identity is the operating system, and glitchy apps on an old system crash on the hard days. Then she tells on herself. She walked into the woods behind her clinic after stitching a patient's hand, realized she never wanted to go back, wrote her resignation letter, and then stayed through an entire pandemic wave anyway rather than leave at the worst moment. Her last day came in her birthday month, and she sat in her car and cried for fifteen minutes before driving home with the windows down, free. Listen for the moment a senior resident nodded at her to keep going while ribs cracked under her hands, and for what that taught her about self-doubt. You'll start catching your own identity statement, about money, sleep, confidence, relationships, the ones you say like they're just facts. Then you get to argue back. Redesigning You: Change Your Inner Story, Transform Your Health Dr. Kim's Website Dr. Kim's YouTube Dr. Kim's Instagram In this episode you will: Discover with Dr. Kim Foster why lasting change fails as an identity problem rather than an information problem Apply the Recognize, Redesign, Ritualize framework to build an identity your brain actually believes Build a bridge identity that gives your mind proof instead of forcing affirmations you secretly reject Overcome the fear that keeps you loyal to a role you have outgrown, even a prestigious one Reframe self doubt as useful data and stop letting shame drive your attempts to improve Become genuinely magnetic in conversation without slipping into performance For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1981 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 22. You're Not Bad With Money, You Inherited Bad Beliefs | Lewis Howes

You're not stuck with money because you're lazy or bad with numbers. You're running a program you never chose. You inherited it. It got set by what your family earned, what went quiet at the dinner table, what your friends made, what that first good job paid you. Nobody sat you down and taught you to fear money. You absorbed it and built a ceiling out of it. In this solo episode Lewis walks through the five money beliefs that keep almost everyone stuck, and gives you a specific assignment for each one. It's the work at the center of his New York Times bestselling book Make Money Easy, stripped down to what you can actually do this week. Your mind will defend that ceiling like it's protecting you. Every time you climb above it something pulls you back down and you call it bad luck. It isn't luck. It's a thermostat. These beliefs only survive because nobody ever says them out loud. Four numbers, thirty days, and one uncomfortable conversation is where the whole thing breaks. Make Money Easy The School of Greatness The Greatness Mindset The Mask of Masculinity In this episode you will: Uncover why 99% of people are wired to sabotage their own money growth Learn why financial breakthroughs come from new beliefs, not better strategies Break the invisible income ceiling your mind quietly defends Reframe overwork by learning that money is payment for value, not for pain Give every dollar a destination before it arrives, the way wealthy people do For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1980 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 23. Your Pain Pushes You Until Your Vision Pulls You | Michael Beckwith

Your pain will keep pushing you until a bigger vision starts pulling you instead. Not the vague, hopeful kind either, but the gut-level knowing that there’s more waiting for you than the life you’ve been tolerating. Most people never feel that pull until the pain gets loud enough to force it. Michael Beckwith knows that shift intimately. Long before he became the founder of Agape International Spiritual Center, the global spiritual community he’s led since its first Sunday service in 1986, he was an agnostic revolutionary who spent his early twenties trying to talk Christians out of their faith. Then came a dream where three men held him down and drove a knife into his heart, and he woke up inside a wave of presence and love so overwhelming he spent the next four decades trying to help other people find their way back to it. These days he’s walking through his own separation, from a marriage that began in 2000, and he refuses to call either of his marriages a failure. He calls them both successful, because love that changes shape isn’t love that disappeared. That kind of honesty runs through the whole conversation, including his mother’s sudden death and how quickly he chooses to forgive. You’ll hear him explain where racism actually comes from and why mediocrity always attacks excellence the moment you start to grow. He also leaves you with the three truths he’d want you to carry if everything else he ever said disappeared, starting with this: give away more than you take before you go. Prosperity, Plenitude & Infinite Possibilities Life Visioning: A Transformative Process for Activating Your Unique Gifts and Highest Potential 40 Day Mind Fast Soul Feast: A Guide to Soul Awakening and Inner Fulfillment The Answer Is You Spiritual Liberation: Fulfilling Your Soul's Potential Michael's Instagram Michael's Facebook In this episode you will: Discover how a near-death dream reoriented an atheist revolutionary into a spiritual founder Reframe two “failed” marriages as two successful ones by redefining what a relationship is for Recognize why mediocrity attacks excellence, and stop shrinking to keep others comfortable Overcome the shame of teaching principles you're still struggling to live yourself Distinguish crisis from insight as the two paths people use to grow into their purpose For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1979 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 24. Stop Waiting for the Perfect Moment, It Never Comes | Kier Gaines

You get good at whatever you practice, and most of us have quietly mastered waiting. Kier Gaines knows what that waiting costs. He's a licensed therapist who grew up in a rough DC neighborhood never expecting to see 21, and now spends his sessions untangling why people freeze right before the moment they've prepared for actually arrives. He walks you through the difference between blame and responsibility, and why anger can feel like armor until it quietly becomes the thing holding you back. You'll hear why self-victimization can feel like the safest story to tell yourself, even when it's the one keeping you stuck. His new book, “It All Starts When You Do,” pushes back on the idea that healing has a finish line. He talks about interrogating his own beliefs instead of protecting them, and why letting his daughters struggle a little now and then might be the most loving thing he does as a father. By the end, you'll be sitting with his simplest, hardest question: how much is actually enough, and what would it feel like to stop waiting for a perfect moment that was never coming anyway? Pre-order It All Starts When You Do Kier on Instagram In this episode you will: Trace how childhood anger shifts from a protective “sword and shield” into a limiting anchor, and what it takes to finally release it Unpack why self-victimization feels more natural to the brain than accountability, and reclaim your own agency instead Confront the excuse of “waiting for the perfect moment” and recognize the fear that's really driving your inaction Separate who you are from what you've done so a single failure stops defining your identity Process survivor's guilt without letting it block your own joy, peace, and abundance Close the gap between who you say you are and how you actually show up, using consistent action to build self-trust For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1978 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 25. Why Grit Isn’t Enough to Get What You Want | Angela Duckworth

Angela Duckworth, the psychologist who made “grit” a household word, sat down with Lewis and confessed something her research almost missed. Effort alone doesn’t build a great life. The situation you’re in does, and no one shapes that situation more than the person you marry. She traces it back to her own mother, a gifted painter who gave up her art for fifty years married to a man who walked past her paintings without a word. Then Angela goes further, into a marriage crisis she and her husband Jason never talked about publicly. Both of them were try-harder people who worked themselves into misery during the 2008 crash, until Angela told him on a walk that she cried every night and didn’t want to be married anymore. What saved them wasn’t more grit. It was therapy, three therapists between two people, and a willingness to change the situation instead of just pushing through it. Lewis matches her story with his own, requiring therapy before he’d even commit to dating Martha, because every past relationship had only gone to therapy once it was already collapsing. Angela ties it back to the Pygmalion effect. Your confidence is borrowed from the people who believe in you before you believe in yourself. By the end you’ll want to look around at your own life and ask who’s actually bringing out your best. Angela’s mother didn’t paint again until her husband died. Now, at 91, she paints every day. Situated: Find the People and Places That Bring Out Your Best Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance Angela's Instagram Angela's LinkedIn Angela's Facebook In this episode you will: Discover why proximity, not just grit, determines whether your effort ever pays off Learn how changing your situation, not trying harder, rescued a marriage on the brink of divorce Recognize the fundamental attribution error and why the power of situation is invisible until you name it Challenge the shame around therapy and see how it can rebuild a struggling relationship Uncover the Pygmalion effect and how others' belief in you shapes your own confidence For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1977 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! 26. Why You Feel Stuck and How to Actually Change | Dr. Katy Milkman

80% of people feel stuck in their own lives right now, and it has nothing to do with willpower. Dr. Katy Milkman, author of How to Change and professor at Wharton, breaks down why status quo bias and sunk cost thinking keep us glued to relationships, jobs, and habits that stopped working long ago. She explains the fresh start effect, why moments like Mondays, birthdays, and new zip codes actually rewire our motivation, and why waiting for a bigger breakdown might be costing you years. You will hear how she turned a dreaded gym habit into something she craved just by pairing it with Harry Potter audiobooks, and why a Google experiment on exercise proved that flexible backup plans beat rigid discipline every single time. She also gets honest about her own struggle with work life balance, choosing late night work over time with her five year old, and what she is doing to change that pattern right now. If you have ever broken a promise to yourself and felt the confidence drain out of you a little more each time, this conversation hands you the science to forgive yourself and start again smarter. Katy walks through commitment devices, temptation bundling, and the exact if then plans researchers use to make change stick long after the motivation fades. 27. Money Loves Speed, but Wealth Loves Time | Sharran Srivatsaa

The version of you who thinks debt is the enemy has never heard it explained this way. Sharran Srivatsaa went from dumpster-diving for food his first week of college to running Acquisition.com alongside Alex and Layla Hormozi, and the money rules he lives by now would sound insane to the kid who once got mugged for $100 within seven hours of landing in America. He talks about the ratchet clause that quietly shrank a $47 million payout down to under $5 million, and why that single contract mistake sent him to business school and Wall Street to learn the language money is actually written in. You will hear why he thinks money loves speed but wealth loves time, why every goal needs an actual plan instead of a wish, and why the four money monsters (inflation, taxes, interruption, fees) are quietly eating your future more than any bad investment ever could. 28. The Trapped Emotions Blocking Your Love and Health | Dr. Bradley Nelson

That chest pain you can't explain, that anger that fires before you can think, that heart you've quietly sealed off since someone broke it. There might be a reason it's still there. Dr. Bradley Nelson spent 18 years as a chiropractor, and what kept showing up led him to a wild realization: about 90% of the physical pain he saw traced back to emotions his patients never fully processed. Anger, grief, and guilt don't just disappear when we bury them, he says. They get trapped in the body, distort its energy, and quietly run the show. About a decade in, he started building a method around what he was seeing: The Emotion Code — and has spent the last 20 years certifying more than 17,000 practitioners in 108 countries. He talks about the “heart wall,” an invisible barrier that around 93% of people build without knowing it, and how taking it down has helped people fall in love, heal from depression, and let go of pain they'd carried for decades. Lewis shares his own story too, a years-long ache in his chest that finally released in a single, almost electric moment during deep therapy work. This one will make you rethink every “unexplainable” symptom, every instant overreaction, every wall you've built without realizing it. Your body is talking to your brain constantly, telling it either 'I'm safe' or 'I'm not safe.' The posture you default to when no one's watching might be the thing keeping you stuck. Amy Cuddy, the social psychologist behind one of the most-watched TED Talks ever, sat down to unpack what actually builds confidence when the world feels unstable. She talks about the difference between faking it and becoming it, why imposter syndrome hits 75-85% of people, and why the bullies who came after her post-TED fame taught her more about personal power than the research ever did. You'll hear about the exact breathing pattern she uses before high-stakes moments, the simple writing exercise that beats any pep talk, and why she thinks reframing anxiety as excitement changes everything. There's also a story about a nurse named Alex Wubbels who got thrown against a wall for doing the right thing, and what that taught Amy about the kind of bravery that has no glory attached to it. That feeling when a small comment ruins your entire day? There's actually a name for it, and it's not a character flaw. Dr. Sasha Hamdani is a board certified psychiatrist and ADHD specialist who spent years thinking something was fundamentally wrong with her before she connected the dots between her emotions and her ability to function. She was diagnosed with ADHD in fourth grade but her parents never told her, calling her medication a “vitamin” until she found out by accident in medical school, mid breakdown, after a grade crash she couldn't explain. In this conversation she breaks down why ADHD is genetic rather than trauma driven, why women are diagnosed on average at 35 instead of childhood, and why so many get handed antidepressant after antidepressant for the wrong diagnosis. She also opens up about rejection sensitive dysphoria, the moment her father's sudden death taught her that unregulated emotion can shut down your whole life, and the years she spent secretly dating her now husband while terrified of rejecting her family's expectations. 31. Why You Can't Manifest With an Old Identity | Jim Curtis

You can't manifest a new life while you're still living inside an old identity. Transformational coach and hypnotherapist Jim Curtis has worked with entrepreneurs and public figures on the pattern behind their stuck points. He calls it release, align, become, a framework built to break the subconscious programming running your life. It starts with forgiveness. Not the version where you forgive everyone else. The version where you look yourself in the mirror and say I'm sorry first. Your subconscious can't build a life it doesn't believe you deserve. Chase the money or the relationship hard enough without changing the belief underneath it, and it finds a way to hand it back. 32. Raise Resilient Kids Without Punishment | Dr. Becky Kennedy

The reason your kid melts down over a puzzle has nothing to do with the puzzle. It's about whether they've ever been shown that frustration is survivable instead of something to run from. Dr. Becky Kennedy, a clinical psychologist who spent years teaching parents the textbook model built on timeouts and sticker charts, once stopped mid-session with a paying couple and told them she no longer believed what she was teaching them. That moment of honesty became the seed of Good Inside. She walks through the three lines she leans on with her own kids in almost any hard moment, starting with letting them know she's glad they came to her at all. It sounds small, but she says it might be the single most healing thing a parent can offer a kid who's struggling. Boundaries come up too, and she reframes them completely. A boundary isn't a threat or a punishment, it's what lets a kid feel like someone calm is actually flying the plane, even while they're the one melting down in the back. By the end you'll understand why she thinks punishment quietly teaches kids the opposite of what parents intend, and why she keeps coming back to one word above all: repair. There's one reason your new habits never stick, and it has nothing to do with willpower. Peter Crone has spent decades coaching PGA Tour golfers, Major League Baseball athletes, and top executives on the subconscious wiring behind their results, and he breaks down why force can override a habit but never an identity. He explains why most relationships start as attachment and codependency instead of real love, why hatred is a wound you carry inside yourself, and why the story you keep telling about your pain is the thing keeping you stuck in it. 35. Why No Is More Powerful Than Yes | Chris Voss

You've been taught that YES means you won. Chris Voss says it's usually the moment you get played. The former lead FBI international kidnapping negotiator built a career proving the opposite of what most of us believe about persuasion. NO isn't rejection. It's the moment the real conversation starts. YES, more often than not, is a counterfeit answer people give just to get you off the phone. Voss is the founder of The Black Swan Group and the author of Never Split the Difference, and in this conversation he breaks down the exact language that turns a stuck negotiation into a done deal. You'll hear the calibrated questions he used to save hostages, and the same questions people are now using in boardrooms and car dealerships. He also gets specific. What to say when someone dismisses your price. How to ask for an upgrade without ever demanding one. 36. Bruce Lipton: The Program Running 95% of Your Life

You've been running on a program installed before you could even talk, and you had no say in writing it. Cell biologist and former medical school professor Bruce Lipton spent his career studying epigenetics and quantum biology, and he says your subconscious recorded almost everything about how to live before age seven. That program runs 95% of your day on autopilot, and you're the one person who can't see it while it's playing. Stress hormones don't just make you anxious. They shut down your immune system and reroute blood away from your gut, which is why kids get sick right before exams and adults get sick the moment a hard season finally ends. Quantum physics says the material world you're so sure of is an illusion, and once that clicks, the way you see your relationships, enemies included, changes completely. Bruce lays out the myths keeping humanity trapped in a cycle of self-destruction and the honeymoon shift that rewired his entire life after 40 years of running the wrong program. Your grief is not the thing keeping you stuck. Running from it is. David Kessler spent years working alongside Elisabeth Kubler-Ross before everything he taught got tested against his own life, when his son died unexpectedly and the grief expert became the one who needed help. He talks about sitting in a grief group with his own books on the table and still not being able to say the words out loud. About discovering there is a stage past acceptance, one built on meaning instead of just getting through it. You will hear why anger is often just pain wearing a disguise, why your triggers are actually a map back to what needs healing, and why the people who seem to have it all together are usually the ones running the hardest. 38. Why Forced Positivity Is Making You Miserable | Susan David

Some feelings get labeled good. Others get labeled bad. That single belief might be running your entire life. You'll hear why chasing happiness on command wears you down instead of building you up, and why the fastest path to resilience runs straight through the emotions you've been avoiding. Susan David, the psychologist and researcher behind the book Emotional Agility, has spent over two decades studying why some people bend under pressure and others don't. She breaks down the difference between having an emotion and being owned by it, using a simple image you'll carry into your next hard day. You'll hear about the notebook she started writing in as a teenager that nobody else could read, and how her father answered the one question she couldn't stop asking him. Susan and Lewis get into why negativity isn't always the enemy, how self bias quietly convinces you that other people were right about your limits, and what it actually takes to stop reacting and start responding. 40. The Trauma That Hurts People Most (And Never Gets Named) | Patrick Teahan

A calm, healthy relationship can feel more dangerous to you than the chaos you grew up in. That's hypervigilance. It hates the absence of a threat, so it manufactures one, even when you're finally safe. Patrick Teahan, a clinical social worker and childhood trauma educator, breaks down why your body still reacts like it's protecting a nine year old. You're not overreacting. You're replaying. You're manifesting every single day. You're just doing it the wrong way. His new book, Mind Magic, breaks down the neuroscience most manifestation advice leaves out completely. Here's the block nobody talks about. It's not a lack of belief. It's fear. It's shame. It's insecurity running your nervous system without your permission, and it's keeping you stuck in survival mode instead of the state where real change actually happens. Doty grew up in poverty with an alcoholic father and a mother who attempted suicide multiple times. A stranger in a magic shop taught him a technique that rewired how his brain worked, and decades later he's the one teaching it to brain surgeons and first responders. 50. Why Your Relationship Keeps Repeating the Same Pattern | Gary John Bishop

Most breakups have one thing in common, and it's never who you think it is. You can point to the fight, the distance, the way things quietly went cold. But the real story starts years earlier, in the exact moment you stopped noticing the shift. Gary John Bishop, author of Love Unf*cked: Getting Your Relationship Sh!t Together, has spent decades studying why people stay stuck in relationships long after they know something is wrong. He built a career teaching people how to spot the moment they started tolerating what should have ended. This conversation gets personal fast. Bishop opens up about the 28 years he went without telling his mother he loved her, the phone call that broke him open, and the identity he had to dismantle before he could fully love his own wife. You will hear why competitiveness can quietly wreck intimacy, why blame is the anchor that keeps you stuck in the past, and why the story you tell about what happened to you matters more than what actually happened. By the end, you'll see why the real work is getting "complete" with your first twenty years. And why the best lovers are the ones who stopped looking for someone else to fix them.
